QRNational have set a start up date of 13 November for their East West intermodal service.

Potential and existing customers have been invited to a briefing in Melbourne this evening.

QRN have accquired approx 150 container flats from PN as part of Toll's ACCC undertaking.

They are also launching GO RailTMwhatever the hell that is?

I guess the motive power will be ex-ARG mainline locos? There isn't much choice I guess.

Hopefully Linfox-FCL are first in line for this briefing.

Probably Q's. Even RL's as I do believe they have inline fueling.

I wouldn't have thought there were any spare Qs lying around and the RLs have yet to be accepted into regular traffic.

Won't be Q's Mike, it will be 6 EL's, 2 G's and an X class.

GoRail is all about going green and trying to get that message across to potential customers of the benefits of going on rail instead of road.

I think there is a website called

The service will operate three days per week - Tue, Thu and Fri ex
Melbourne departing at 1700 with a midday departure out of Adelaide roughly in the path of the old AP4.

Thanks Rocket! Interesting website too! Just need Canberra to have a good read of it and we're in business.

Bing, have you got any idea what time it will arrive in Perth?

Going on their north/south workings, anytime on the right day will be close enough.

correct the EL numbers currently on hire to QRN are

EL51,EL52,EL54,EL57,EL58,EL63 or maybe EL55 is in South Aus at the moment. G516 is at Chullora soon to be in QRN livery,G534,X53 and X54 or ex ARG locos as motive power when the RL's are commissioned to enter service i really want them to see these locos running this NEW East-West service

SCT G's and EL60 Octagonal best combo on freights!!

No wonder they advertised for jobs in Melbourne and Dimboola for Drivers and Trainees a while back.

Hopefully QRN can win new traffic to rail and not merely rely on pinching container business from Pacific National.

Maybe this could be a chance to capture piggyback / TOFC business back to the east - west corridor, once a fairly substantial freight component. FreightLink cart Shell road tankers on their trains to Darwin, a move which makes sense with rising fuel prices and the difficulty in hiring long distance truck drivers.

Is EL55 still in AN livery?

I've always wondered why they don't just drive trucks onto trains and then drive them off at the other end. Saves loading and unloading containers and saves the cost of fuel and drivers. Height limits might be an issue, but it would be fine on Perth-Adelaide and Darwin-Adelaide trains.

The world is being strangled by public liability insurance and litigation and nobody seems to notice!
