3112 - What's it up to?

unfortunatly the decisions lye with Boyd Monroe as to wether work gets done to it- it requires some minor mechanical work and tanks are almost to condeming conditions. It needs 3013's tanks!

This is unlikely to happen for this main reasons,
-Boyd Munroe doesn't own 3013's tanks

This is unlikely to happen for 2 main reasons,
1) Boyd Munroe doesn't own 3013's tanks
and
2) You are dealing with Boyd Munroe...that says it all doesn't it.

A question on point 2 'Jajb94', how often have you dealt with Boyd to make this statement?

3112 is likely not to steam fo a long long time, Ive heard from a relieble source that Barry Tulloch thinks that 3112 won't steam again (the ARHS ACT thinks that to!), because it's in bad condition and is rusting away!

What's a 'relieble' source?

As I understand it, 3112 is overdue for a boiler lift and inspection. I wasn't aware of the tanks being at condemning state, but there you go. There was an effort made to get it going again for Maitland Steamfest in 2008, but as I understand it Mr Munro was uncontactable, and the clock just ticked away.

Thats just Steve Buck saying it needs a boiler lift when it doesnt. Just take the tanks off and everything will be there for all to see. Clear as day.

So you can see what's between the frames can you? It's my understanding (from more than someone said) the loco is basically showing it's age. Removing the boiler (in my opinion) would be nothing more than the first place to start with an overhaul that would give the loco another long period in traffic. After all, it's not a big deal to pull the boiler out.

I've not heard anything regarding 3112 from Stephen Buck. My information came from people who have a fair bit to do with it.

Why not share your full summation of the engine?

My information comes from someone who has had plenty to do with the locomotive for the last 20 years. Dont want to name his name. But he said to me "steve buck wants this done and it doesnt need to be done"
Thats in his oppion and i reken if thats what he thinks then its good enough for me.

I think it will be the Boiler Inspector who will have the Final say in what has to be done.

The Boiler inspector would only have a say in the Boiler, not any of the running gear, frames , ect.

Edit: But a boiler lift should always be done every few years

Exactly. However, it is my understanding that the national standards that are being developed will require regular (i.e. 10 yearly) boiler lifts.
  remo Station Master

My understanding is that the locomotive is only going for boiler inspection, by removing the boiler from the frame and pulling the tubes, and taking the lagging off...............
you know what that means!!!!!!!!
bye bye boiler..........
there has to be a reason why it was sold

not that I am aware of, it needs a lot of work, and very little had happened since it came down to canberra.
Perhaps someone else has herd something?

Whats the latest? Please be something good!

Ill keep it simple.

NOTHING has changed, and NOTHING will change.

The owner has zero intention of doing anything with it, and that is how it will stay for the forseeable future (for the very long range forseeable future).

It is a private engine and its owner can exactly what he likes with it, which in this case is just storing it.  AIUI, not interested in whinging gunzels moaning about its non-operation either.

It isnt awaiting someone to make a proposal, it isnt awaiting funding, and it isnt awaiting parts or anything like that either.

3112 wont steam for a loooooong time - get over it.

A loco beautifully restored, Straight into a life of rotting away in Brambles? I had a cabride from Sydney to Gosford when she was operating with 3801Ltd, I worked on and off on 3112. It was terific up Cowan Bank, 3112 was a beast, she just kept on going and she was beautiful. The current owner has 3112 up in Brambles for a reason, He may live in the ACT but can't pay the expenses of running, It cost HEAPS to run a loco. I read that it cost $10,000 for NSWRTM just to do a trip to Mossvale and return? The owner must not have all of the $$$ or 3112 would be used on ARHS tours with 3016. Hey, 3137 has a chance of operating, oh wait the RTM won't get 5910 operating.........

Oh...... **** Why don't the bloke donate 3112 to ARHS ACT? He will only be in Australia once every 20 years.
