What do you mean by 2 different boiler designs?
3013, 3137, 3112 and 3102 have saturated boilers. 3001 and 3016 have superheated boilers.

Right yes although the decision could be made I guess to superheat 3102. Shame that the tanks wouldn't be superheated. I think that would be rather interesting.
Back to the topic of the thread though, I am clear on the fact that trying to reason with this fellow is extremely unlikely to ever work. I would have thought trying to contact him to at least get his permission to store the loco more properly would be worth a try though. It's only going to continue to corrode out there and there is the serious possibility that water has already made in roads into the lagging on the boiler and cylinders.

Don't forget to do this you would also need to replace the Slide Valves with Piston Valves.

Yes that is a good point. I guess the cost effectiveness of having a superheated engine might not be enough to warrant it.

The difference in saturated and superheated boilers wouldn't be a significant challenge. In terms of the structure of the boiler it's only a matter of drilling the tube plates.

Yes, flues instead of tubes. As 3827 said though the valves would need to be rebuilt. I guess if the engine was to be run in the long term though there would be greater fuel efficiency and power to offset this cost.

That's good news, probably means as well it won't be a volunteer restoration meaning it isn't 'years' away. (nothing wrong with volunteer restorations, but a paid team will sort it quick)

From what I believe there is a lot of work that needs to be done, could be interesting Goulburn did a fair amount of work on 3016 some time ago..
So they have the knowledge from that, also it would have been a long time since she has been in a modern work shop!
