Hi MSTS fans,
I am creating a new route for all you fans out there
I have been working on since october 2007
I am building my route from Sydney NSW to
Brisbane QLD, Melbourne VIC, Moree NSW,
Dubbo NSW, Broken Hill NSW, Armidale NSW and
all Sydney's cityrail network and some of Brisbane's
citytrain and Melbourne's connex networks
it's going to be awhile before I can release it
so there isn't any set date I am hopping some
time next year in 2008 where I can add the new
Epping to Chatswood line in Sydney
but we will see how it works out first
also I would need someone to build me some objects such as station,
bridges etc. from NSW, QLD, & VIC. If there is someone out there
let me know and I can tell you what I need and if your interested
email me at phillip151183@dodo.com.au and put in the subject

Hi PhilChorusch,
I would like to wish you all the very best of luck!
I would also like to ask if you would build the South Coast from Sydney to Nowra and the to link to Moss Vale from Unanderra. Just a thought.........

Jeebus H Hombre! A route like that would be enormous! And possibly detailed too, which might spark a problem for some of those using older computers.
From what I can gather, one of the lines you are planning is the entire CityRail Network, am I correct? If so, be careful, I have seen a project like that been attempted before but was cancelled due to newbies doing something called "Gimme Pigging", but don't let that get in your way.
My advice? Take one step at a time, for example, make one part of the route first, then another the next and remember, there are some limits as to what RE can do..
I wish you the best of luck with making this route! If you need any help, Steam4me's tutorials can put you on the right track.
Cheers!
Buddy.

Sorry to burst your bubble, and ruin the fun, but if this is what you genuinely wish to build please realise that this may demand at least 5 - 7 years work minimum + the time taken for research, photography trips (even if you are not the primary photographer), and possibly expenses upwards of 1000 AUD. The more detail, the longer it takes, and the only magic bullet to speed things up without cutting corners is to revise and tinker with the techniques you are comfortable with or work on it more often. Eventually you will find a routine that suits you.
The average section of track (say 10kms) including farms, all fencing, boundary fencing, accurately represented vegetation, photoreal buildings where appropriate, terrain textures and interactives will easily occupy 5 days for a modestly populated rural setting consisting mostly of paddocks, farms, and tree covered hills with a small town and/or yard at each end.
Sections which require large numbers of creeks/streams, trees, custom buildings or fencing could set you back 7 - 14 days even. Dense suburban area is no better. If you can do what Peter Newell has done and arrange for an independent scenery creator who is not actually constructing the route at the same time, that would easily save you time in the long run. But all parties will need to be in for a long haul.
Please bear in mind that this will be a very large project, and it will do no harm to occasionally review your intentions to make sure it is what you want to do once the novelty of starting a new route wears off.

Why did I laugh and roll my eyes when reading the topic heading for this one?!?!?!
I will make an firm prediction on this one... the route WON'T be released. Not only that, it won't get beyond about the first year of building before the author gives up.
Just call it a hunch
Mr. Anderson... surprised to see me?

Let's see...
You're going to build half of Australia's railway network for MSTS but you can't upload a picture to a discussion forum.
Well, I admire your enthusiasm and wish you all the best.

I admire your enthusiasm but, as others have said, you have set your goals way too high and you're setting yourself up to fail. May I make a positive suggestion; set yourself a much more feasible target, and if that works then move onto something bigger and better. As you say you live in Goulburn I would suggest the following. Model the Goulburn to Crookwell and Taralga lines, set in the 1960's. You can find curve and gradient diagrams if you look, the landscape isn't too hard to model, you can visit the remains of the line in your spare time for research, and rolling stock and objects for your line are already available. The route will have historical interest and you can concentrate on the quality of your work rather than the quantity of lines to lay. You can release a 'Version 1.0' soon enough and see how people react. Good luck
