I have full faith in this project. If he releases it like CTN in stages, it will be quite successful. Smile

Hi PhilChorusch
Whilst I too have much respect for your enthusiasm, like billybaxter, I believe you are aiming too high. Route building is a long term project - years and thousands of hours - and I would urge you to deeply consider the wise advice both he and ARG706 have offered. As an established route developer, I have been there and done that, and offer any assistance I can to actually see your dream come to fruition. However, perhaps you do need to head out on your plan (how much track have you actually laid?) and find out for yourself that the wisdom being proffered is in fact soundly based.
To research for your route properly will take many months. My MSTS photos folder is 19Gb and over 17,000 items - you will exceed both of those and that is not going to happen in just a few weeks. But aim high and never give up - there are plenty of people who can assist when you have shown that you can commit for the long term.
Cheers
allanl

Phil, best of luck to you and your expected release date of 2008.

Any idea where you will be starting from yet?

Phil.
How are you going to do your Marker File? I found that by using Google Earth helped but a lot of it is in low resolution so I had to actually drive out into the areas that I needed and write down the latitude and longitude every 500metres and then go home and physically enter every reading into the computer before I could even think about laying any track, it has taken me 12 months to cover about 400 kilometres of track and it is only now that I am starting to do the scenery, so good luck with covering over 2000 kilometres of track (between Brisbane and Melbourne only) plus the photos of all the buildings that are required and doing the actual building of all the scenery items. Also how are you going to overcome the Great White Viod that you must cross on your route? So we can expect the release of this completed route by Christmas of 2008? Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing And remember that copyright is not s**t as you stated in a previous post of yours.

GWV can be overcome with MSTSbin.

The simple answer is, it is a physical impossibility to plan, lay, and fully detail 3000+ kilometres of track and roads (including much of it covering high density areas) as well as get the route released in 12 months even if using the best and fastest methods of putting everything in. That is even if it is worked on virtually 24/7.

A route of this size is possible, but it is a much longer process than what one will estimate early on

Hi ARG706,
You now and I now that there is no way that a route of this magnitude can be planned and built to completion in the amount of time that Phil thinks he can do it in. Yes it is possible to build a route this size but I believe that it would take about 10 years if not longer. I was interested in what Phils reply was going to be about the GWV, which would give us some idea as to the knowledge that Phil has got about how MSTS works, but unfortunately you have answered it for him. It appears that at the moment Phil has no idea as to what is really involved in building a route. Lets hope he does not try to do too much at a time.

Hi Guy's

I am looking around next year some time for release date in 2008
with my fingers crossed to answer most questions
I am using both Google maps and Google earth for marker files
so for so good I am up to Casino to Grafton and as followed
Grafton to Coffs Harbour and so on I don't have any activities as yet
but I am hopping when I'm done that I can strart on some of them
e.g. Sydney to Brisbane XPT anyway I will be adding pictures
of the map to the internet as I build my route

Hi again MSTS fans,

I just wanted let let everyone know that I will also add the line from Junee
to Narrandera and to Griffith so that's another little bit
of great news
once I have all the marker files done then I will start building
day and night until I have completed my route
and I will make seperate files for dial-up users as a ziped folders
and the full installation for broardband users the file size
at the moment is 3.60GB but once zipped it will be in the MB range
at about 400 to 690MB if not then there will be a 2 disk installation
as zipped folders and I have added all MSTS routes shapes, textures and terrtex files so there will be no need to create an installme.bat file
Please note: I did get permission from Mike to use his Blue Mountains route's files and Peter's permission to use the files from his route Coals to Newcastle but I have tried to make contact to ask permission to use the files from Sydney West, Illawarra and Coal road routes and without thinking I have already added the files but I will give these people credit
within the Thanks & Credits file of my route the only route that I couldn't get permission to use the files is from Central West route by Chris Nelson
but that's alright I only needed to re-name the main outback texture
and use it but I will work out something here

Ah, just a guess, because I haven't seen the 'Read Me' documents, but I didn't think you were allowed to use the routes' files until permission was gained. Just crediting them isn't enough.

Willing to be corrected though.

How will you be merging all these routes into one even if you miraculously get permission from all parties involved?
