Hi, I'm just after a bit of information / ideas from some of you experienced route builders.

I am making a start on a Route which will be based on a real life South Australian Railways narrow gauge route.
This will be a work in progress for quite a long time, as I only have limited time to work on it, due to work commitments, and other hobbies which take up quite a bit of my time.

My thoughts are to model this route in the normal MSTS track sections, as there is very little in the way of Australian/SAR narrow gauge Locos and rolling stock, and the route itself will be a big challenge for me, without having to attempt to build Locos and rolling stock as well.

Any thoughts/comments greatly appreciated.

Wayne

Gidday Wayne,
Happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
I think you have two choices - use the 3' narrow gauge track that is part of xtracks, or alternatively you could wait for 3D Trains to do some more work on their Fine Scale 3' gauge track. They have not made a Dynamic Track piece and therefore it is limited by the scarcity of short pieces which are required to join track up where we would normally use Dynamic track. My own SAR Northern Narrow Gauge route has track laid from Terowie - Peterborough - Jamestown - Gladstone with some of the Wilmington line laid and I am on the way to Quorn/Stirling North. I have emailed Pichi Richi Preservation Society 5 times now seeking some info on the Quorn area, but at this stage they have ignored me - strange, you would think they would be interested in getting their neck of the woods accurate. Anyway, I chose to use narrow gauge track so that I can use DEM and so that I can lay Terowie and Gladstone as true dual gauge stations. Remember that xtracks' dual gauge track cannot have Activities built on the points and signalling is also indeterminate, so it is best to avoid it. I already have narrow gauge 830 class diesels and am working on getting other SAR locos and rolling stock. I have undertakings for garratts, T and Y classes, but there is now some doubt as to whether the builder is actually going to do them.
I have had some training on wagon/carriage construction and in the fullness of time I could do these myself. It is just time, time, time, heh, heh.
You know where to get me if I can be of any assistance.
Cheers
allanl
