Ladies, Gentlemen and Gunzels.

December is upon us. Greenkayaker has already espoused the Spirit of Christmas in another very worthy thread to which I trust many of us will be contributing in an appropriate form.

On a lighter note and in what has become a Railpage Australia™™ tradition I am pleased to bring you the now Annual Christmas Quiz.

Rules:-

1. This is just for fun; there are no prizes rewards or material gains.
2. There are no definitive "right" or "wrong" answers; only your opinion is sought.
3. All opinions and replies are equally valid and hold equal merit.
4. You are welcome to post comments if you wish as well as casting you vote but please keep them reasonably close to the subject and not in any way derogatory towards others.
5. ENJOY!

As ever this poll runs for around five weeks until the first week of January taking us through the holiday season and out of the hangover zone at the other end.

We have an early leader in the QRN item, clearly we think that they should be worried up in the Blackwater and Goonyella districts.

Not that far behind is what might be on our own wish list based on the experiences of recent years with a speed limit applied to trucks close to rail crossings. Then Rudd taking over the interstate lines and Railpage Australia™ finally finding a secure pair of feet are up there at this stage.

Keep the votes coming in. And pass on the link as not everyone might routinely scan through the "General" forum or read my own posts with a link from the signature.

I think Railpage Australia™ will get rid of the server issues at some point in 2008. How long the issues are kept at bay is open to conjecture Laughing

Half way through the Seasonal Quiz period and we're going well. More votes cast at this stage than any year previously Very Happy

And the trucks are fast catching the QR coal monopoly.

Keep 'em coming in. Your votes, that is.

#4 should have been 60kph, trucks can't tell the difference between 80 and 100 anyway.

The most likely is trucks limited to 80 at crossings. This will, of course, be totally ignored, and not policed.
There is an 80 limit on the Monash Freeway in Melbourne, between the Burnley tunnel exit and Scotch College, and I take my life in my hands there five mornings a week. Today was as usual. . . me on cruise control at 80, and two metres off my rear bumper was a Kenworth, flashing lights and blowing the horn. A gap finally opened, allowing me to move sideways and start breathing normally again, as I watched numerous other semis and b-doubles overtaking me ( and others ) at 100-plus. This is normal on this stretch of road, and is met with a magnificent display of bureacratic indifference. Any level crossing limit will be the same.

Voted for QR losing the coal monopoly.

The legislative and open access framework is there already, and the 3rd party operators are already in negotiation with several major coal miners.

Least likely is NSW doing anything to modernise anything.

Well here we are with just a few hours before Christmas dawns and the very respectable total of 64 votes cast. Very Happy

Coalies or Truckies ...... which will be the most popular item? They currently stand neck and neck with 13 votes apiece.

Or will a dark horse come from behind to take the final line honours? It's all up to YOU.

I voted for the most likely thing to happen in 2008, Railpage Australia™ rids itself of it little nuances. One can hope anyway! Cool

I am secretly hoping Connex gets the boot in 2008 from operating Melbournes suburban train system, but that isn't on the list...what is, and what would be perfect though in 2008, is Melbourne getting to see 3801 in full steam.
