The Auscision Models website now shows that both products are now in stock, as well as a truck showing all those boxes that they arrived in on the home page.

Different companies make the HO scale containers in different sizes (so not quite to scale), and these are seacell containers adding to the width of the prototype IIRC (although the locking points should be in the same place) - the first point is why I wonder how they will compare.

I am glad they made the move to having the locks on the wagon rather than lugs on the container - something I wish everyone would do.

i agree there, itd be nice if all manufacturers [of containers] could adopt a standard like that, then again maybe they will.

it seems now i will have to buy a 5-pack as i found out that they havent produced any kits this production run, blast! ah well i spose i better start saving for one then, even though 5 wagons is probably to much for me, eh.

cheers,
Mitch

Collected my package from the post office today. What a sensational model and the containers have excellent artwork and lining. These models deserve to be a sales success! Well done Auscision.

You got yours quick! Although their T class was delivered quick - I got mine two days after they arrived. Auscision's good at their delivery.

Please post some pics of them on this thread, frosty. Smile

Why exactly, do you expect they will be any different to the photo's already posted on Auscsion's page ?

Nope, not different, but usually when modelers post their pics up, it'll be in operation with a loco at the front. Just something different and truly prototypical look with them operating on a layout. Very Happy

My undecorated RQIW's arrived today so I guess my container wagons will arrive tomorrow. First inspection of the wagons show they're highly detailed, and although they still have plastic steps they are finer than the NHFF's, and the middle step includes a see through checker plate pattern.

I did notice one of the plastic air hoses on a wagon had been dislodged during transit but that'll be fixed in a few seconds with some glue. Otherwise everything else seems securely fastened and should survive 'real life' use. Couplers are a fine scale KD type (ie with a spring loaded jaw). All in all I think people are going to be very happy with these models.

PS, I've just seen a custom weathered example of the sample Auscision FA VHGF and CFCLA EL and you are going to really love them when the pics go 'public'.

Those pics are public if your part of the right forum.

My order arrived today, i've unpacked 2 boxes for a play and a study. They are ok and i mean OK. Don't get me wrong they look the part, and have great detail, and are worth every bit of the $40 each we've paid. But 2 things that grab my attention straight away, one was how rough the finish is on top, especially along edges and two, the same crap wobbly wheels that the coal hoppers came with. It seems to me, and this is just my opinion not a review that the basics like crisp lines and reliable on track performance has given way to the need for out of the box super detail. I appreciate the trade off of plastic to diecast for weight, but all the weight in to world isn't going to help these things run reliably with the quality of wheel sets supplied. I'm quite happy with the level of detail for this day and age, not over done nor under baked, but from the perspective of a modeller who is going to use these as functioning units not show case get off's, i'd have been happier with less detail and a reliable performer. For the positives, i love the packaging, its great not being caught up in a smeg fight trying to release your models from seemingly prison like packaging like Traino products, and one thing PJ left out was the crispness of the code boards and builders plates, they really stand out.

I bought a heap of these things, i don't regret buying them, and would have bought more if i circumstances were different. These are just my observations and thoughts both good and bad.

And yet so few join the group yahoo group Aus_Model_Rail even after all the hints we keep dropping.

As I got the undecorated RQIW they work out about $26ea and allow me to clean up any mold seperation lines, etc before painting.

I've just checked my 5 wagons against the NMRA RP25 gauge and all wheels were in spec with no noticable wobble when spun by hand. So off I went to the garage (aka layout room) and tried them singularly and in a rake of 5 and had no problems traversing shinohara code 70 pointwork and railcraft code 55 track - not a wobble, not a wheel drop at the frog, a perfect free rolling set of wagons. They couple with ease to each other and to normal KD's.

On the scale the wagons just tip 43 grams, however the low centre of gravity should ensure no problems when running empty.

BTW, are you confusing the container locking lugs on the deck with flash by any chance?

Yes - stranger things have happened in the modelling world before. Laughing

Edit:
Note the structural beams that run from the sides to the centre of the middle of the wagon are lower on the prototype (and model) just as they should be. same with some of the other strenghtening cross members. If you look at the PDF order for there is a pic of the real wagon where you can see the height differences. The painted models on the Auscision site all show the same height differences in the spots like the prototype, and there's certainly no major (or minor for that matter) flash anywhere on my unpainted models.

Re the unpainted models (I ordered the same) - did they come with decals?

No decals, I expect they'll have some available soon just like the NHFF's. Think I'll do my RQIW's as 2 light grey, 2 dark grey and the one that got painted in PN blue in 2006. Then weather them and they'll all look the same!

I was thinking 2 light grey, 3 dark grey which as you hint at equals 5 brown. I remember seeing a well wagon on the short north one time - the livery was totally unseeable behind graffiti, which was almost unseeable behind the grime. Laughing

I observed a long rake of these wagons at the AMRA NSW branch. The first set of Peco code 100 points they came across they derailed. The problem was every trip pin on the plastic couplings was to low. As for the steam roller wheels, yes you don't get wheel drop in the coarse scale RTR track, but like the earlier coal wagons from Auscission, they are about 0.5mm to small in diameter. My observation of the Auscission couplers is they tend to uncouple sometimes for no apparent reason. I will be sticking with Kadee couplers and metal axles.
