I find it unusual we don't have a thread we can use for the reporting of where the AK cars have been recently. There is usually an odd thread around the various forums when they go somewhere, but not one thread where people can report seeing them, even if they didn't plan on it.

I was surprised to see them yesterday (31/1/08.) coming back from Newcastle, they went south through West Ryde (NSW) at 12:20pm, behind 8105.

It would be interesting to follow their progress around NSW and Australia in one thread! If this has been done before, my apologies, please direct me to the right one Razz

Thanks for the sighting Greg. I believe they worked around the local area before coming back on the Thursday. I know I saw mentioned that they would work push pull up to Newcastle and back on the 31st before returning to Sydney.

Cheers for the tip trainlover. Might not see them in Sydney for a bit then. I hope we see photos and sightings from our friends down in the south!

Free means the cars are not recording or measuring etc..., whereas record naturally means they are recording.

That is just ARTC terminology for you Rolling Eyes . RIC/SRA just show recording or running free.

Recording speed is around 80km/h, running free is applicable track speed. The AK cars are doing the full trip to Perth and Darwin this time.

Mate, if that loco pulls as hard as you do, it'd move anything.
I'd still rather have an ALCo.

The AK Cars arrived in Adelaide yesterday from Tailem Bend. They then travelled to Pelican Point (Outer Harbor) before returning to the MPC to stable overnight. They will head out again in the morning to Port Augusta & Whyalla, then off to Barton on Sunday.

Motive power into Adelaide (I believe all the way from Sydney originally) was 2212.
