2214 is one of the best 22's GWA has, and the worst would have to be 2207. As many people will tell you the 422's and later 22's were never designed for the long distance Nullabour running like some other loco's are. It may not have broken down they may just be swapping it for another loco for the westnet area for some reason.

Cheers,

Andrew McGregor

This information from rparnell who is travelling with the AK cars to Perth

The saga of loco problems continue. After our 0300 start yesterday morning from Kalgoorlie, only to be sat down at Bonnie Vale for 5 other trains to pass/cross, we arrived at Merredin about half a day late. Not without problems though, the last 500m we had a signal failure getting into Merredin Yard to stable. That took over an hour to sort out.

This morning, we were due out at 0830, but DC2206 (ex 42204 I think) decided that there was not enough grunt in the batteries to kick her over.
Now that confusion is the order of the day, it is likely that we will attach to the rear of a grain train about 1400, and run to Forrestfield on it.
Expected into Forrestfield about 1900.

It is quite likely that DC2206 will be replaced for yet another loco - there
are also issues with "detenator detectors" being a requirement on some locos.
Apparently an exploding detenator activates something to do with the vigilance control, should the driver not respond to a det. I'm not quite sure of the full details, but that is why we dropped 2214 off at Kal and had it replaced.

If anything changes drastically from the above plans, I will advise in due
course.

Sad Surprised

The DC had flat batteries at Merredin.
