Yesterday while on my way to Burnley to gunzel, I noticed out the window of a very dirty Xtrap 918M, that there were several trams stabled in the Reserve sidings at Hisense Arena. Those being a few A's and 2 B2s The front one had its Panto up. Ian Green (Vicsig) took a pic on Saturday of 8 A's lined up there. Does anyone know what he meant by " Due to a Disruption near Camberwell Depot" which was in the caption.
Also noted that 4 A's in a row were on route 75 yesterday, which mainly gets B2s with the odd A.

The tram tracks in Riversdale Rd between Glenferrie and Auburn Roads are being relaid over the long weekend.
Passengers are being transported by bus between Power St Hawthorn and Camberwell Depot.
Services are scheduled to return to normal on Wednesday morning. There are a number of trams also parked in the Simpson St siding.

There might also be some reallocations today to provide additional capacity to Flemington Racecourse.

It is far from unknown for trams to be borrowed from where ever rolling stock is spare to boost services for a special event. With a large part of Camberwell's fleet out of use they will have spares to lend to Essendon if required and with depot access limited parking them around the City makes sense.

Additional services are running today between Elizabeth Street - Haymarket - Racecourse so can be worked by B2 trams or A class if necessary.

Some Camberwell trams might have been parked at MCG siding since it's a rather quiet spot with less tendency of vandalism. The remaining A class could be Kew trams as happened in previous track works at Camberwell Depot and Camberwell Junction.

I didn't see any CBW trams running to Flemington today, there were two Southbank D2's and some B's from various depot's plus the regular route 57's.
If CBW A's were to be used who would crew them? I doubt all Ess drivers are qualified on A's, similarly CBW drivers probably don't all know the road to Flemington.

A class has/have operated route 59 service(s), so it's equally possible that they operate race specials.

Only during the 2006 Commonwealth Games and that was well planned for in advance.
Driver currency on a "new" tram type doesn't last forever and there's always new recruits joining the ranks.
YT prefer to have large capacity trams on special event extras i.e. B, C or D2. They would have to be extremely short of rollingstock to use a Z or an A, and on a public holiday that's most unlikely.

I think someone got a little enthusiastic a bit early on Tuesday - all the 'detour' signs got removed on the detour route around Riversdale (south side), which needless to say (the detour route is quite winding) caused more than a few cars to lose their way...

However, the new trackwork looks very swish : )
Now if only they'd slightly rationalise the number of stops on that stretch... some are only about 200m apart!

I remember when Kew had to base its trams (C fleet) was stabled at Collins Street West and when Brunswick stock had to be stabled at Docklands. Also Glenuntly trams were stabled on Dandenong Road right once?
I wonder where, Malvern, East Preston, Essendon and Southbank Trams would stable if there was ever such a disruption?

Malvern: If Glenhuntly can store trams on Dandenong Rd., so can Malvern;
Preston: Harbour Esplanade siding and Collins St. Extn.;
Essendon: Racecourse loop;
Southbank: Harbour Esplanade siding, Collins St. Extn., and M.C.G. siding.

Add to Southbank the ability to store a few at South Melbourne loop and Middle Park if need be and in dire need the St Kilda light rail or 112 routes can be run as one with the other used for storage in a similar way to Grand Prix operations.

Also add Brunswick St. siding to the list, and shunting trams can use the crossover in Brunswick St.

Yes. That is called "Brunswick Street siding".
