I am trying to do a model of one and have hit brickwall, would anyone have any photos of these wagons in the orange colour, someone did a model of one and posted both a photo of his model as well as photo of the prototype, but I cannot locate it and search was of no help, Any help appreciated. I cannot go and see one as they are in NSW and I am in Adelaide, thanks! 8)

I think he was going on about my original question, about the model and prototype photos, Greg. Thanks again to all, my model won't be a exact replica of them, but will be near enough for me! 8)

Some drawings that may be of use. Goninans built at least some of these wagons & they were built off BHP Newcastle drawings & are similar to the general purpose side dump wagons that were once used there. The brake gear was brought up to SRA specs & the internal shedder frames are an departure from the orginal design as well (from new or later addition I don't know)

Thanks for the plans Shed_Rat they are helpful too! Oh just one little question what is the class of the more modern orange ones in 42101's photos, there is one photo of one of these that show the class board but it is hard to read even when magnified. Thanks again to all! Very Happy

I think most of these cars are copies of those made by the "Differential Dump Car Company" of Findlay Ohio.

I visited Findlay Ohio in 1992 (I think, it was during George H.W.Bush's unsuccessful re-election campaign, and CSX were running a Presidential Train through Ohio. After checking a few locations, we picked Findlay as a good spot to shoot the train.)

The factory was still there and there were a number of dump cars sitting around in the yard. The street to the entrance was "Differential Avenue".

The NSW tramways purchased two(?) self propelled Differential Dump cars which were black banned during the great depression since they reduced the need for labourers to unload ballast.

I think there are a number of variations on these cars with the Pilbara Iron Ore companies, including some original "Difco"s and some Goninan cars.

4464 that is about the same thing that I am doing except I am using a very much altered Lifelike side tipping car as I got it cheap, $6 actually. I have lowered it to look more like the prototype and have remove the side tipping action in the process. The car as far as I have got so far is looking good, I am part way through the painting process at the moment. Thanks to all for the info and photo's so far! Cheers! 8)
