I have absolutely no interest in going into locomotive cabs, or going for cabrides.

I think tomohawk and Gwiwer have summed it up quite well.

One question: why wasn't automatic staff exchangers used?
"route14"

For automatic staff exchange you need to have miniature electric staff and not large electric staff as in use on the Stony Point line. Automatic exchange is also designed for high speed exchanges primarily on high capacity main lines when you don't want to slow the trains down any more than needed.

But more importantly, you need to have a signalman to set up the exchanger and there isn't one at Somerville!

So the driver just leaves the staff there?  What if it gets stolen?

The driver just unlocks the station building and the other staff is locked in a cupboard somewhere. If it goes missing, institute pilot working!

Me and a couple of mate went and saw the FIRST ever long island goods enter the section between FNK and Long lsland junction NOT under staff authority.
The train hauled by XR551 and BL 34 was restricted to 25km/h as the line was under a Occupation.
The train ran 1 hour ahead of the shedualed time under the ammended circ. and the crews put on a great performance to maintain the speed and power.
Unfortunatly being dark I could not get many photos, but captured the Long Island non stop through Sumerville.

A few pics were taken at the BHP terminal and will put them up soon...

Well the line was busy today with work crews all along the line tinkering with signals and alike. Part of Frankston station car park was sealed off to allow for crews to park. All the old semaphores lay on their sides where they once stood, new signals at Crib Point were complete and functioning.

Although I did not see any locos, Hastings Coaches ran rail replacements. A few minutes ago I did here the sound of a loco, not an A class go by, sounded like it was heading down.

Can anyone confirm if it was the steel train or a test train?

Hello all. After recent activity on my home line I thought I might go down there again and see what happened to the semaphores, which they have all been felled like a tree in a forest. Here are some pics of my adventure today.

Also noted that there was a lot of work going on at the Long Island junction and at a few signal sites today.

Question: Any one know when they are likely to be picked up and melted down? I have been tempted in dragging one of the near by ones home.  8)

This is the one from hear the Eromosa Road level crossing in down town Somerville.

This one was on the Down side of High Street in Hastings, where Elizabeth Street doesn't cross the tracks.

This one was lying on the UP side of High Street, at the level crossing, where the gravel road leads up to the station.

And this one is at the Naval Depot Road level crossing in Crib Point on the DOWN side of the crossing.

This one was lying on the UP side of the Naval Depot Road level crossing in Crib Point.

And this is a shiny new one on the DOWN side of the station past the junction of sidings.

There are a few more that I didn't get to so with a bit of luck I'll pop out and see those one a little later on.

I would have thought that maybe the Mornington Railway would have asked for the old masts for possible future use?

I agree with both tomohawk and Gwiwer on this one too, as mentioned with all the authorized personal access only these days isn't a good idea.

Maybe removing the photo completely would be a good idea. As operators can easily look on their rosters and see who the driver/s were on that particular run, even if ther driver's face is blured. Otherwise the driver/s can get into substantial trouble.

How often do you clean your sensor? That shot has quite a lot of visible sensor dust to the top of the photo which detracts a bit, I assume the result of changing lenses frequently. I think a sensor cleaning is on order Wink

Please do not take this as an attack on either you or your photos - it is not intended as one.

"SPSD40T2"

That's what I have been wondering. If they are going to use an N class then I can see the purpose of using one for testing. But as a Sprinter will be used then I would have thought using a Sprinter would have been the most sensible thing to do, or at least use an A class, which I believe they did this morning as I spotted just A66 on it's own returning to Frankston. So based on that I believe that morning testing was done using the A class as I heared it running through Somerville earlier this morning.
