Some random pics of the scenic days outing to tamp from Wondabyne to Hawksbury River bridges northern approachs.

Veiw from inside the operaters cabin looking at the tamping part of this 09cat.

The veiw while traveling at 05 its bloody dark 00 from the footplate of the DTS 001

Our ride home from Wondy where we stabled on the down at the station to the shore opposite the H/River sidings by water taxi

Kind of way bloody COOL end to a long day hows that for style and getting paid to enjoy the ride home.

Thanks again for these type of photos.
Quick question, tamping seems to be a long and slow process - how long would it take to do say 1km of track?

So let's get this straight.

Paid to go to one of the state's most naturally beautiful areas and stuff about with fun railway machines, perway, and the wind in yer hair?  After that, take a ride up the river in the golden afternoon sun?

Yes, I think we can all agree 42101 is a bastard.  Mr. Green

Judging by his wake the water taxi driver is fairly confident of his knowledge of where the shallows and oyster beds are!

Thanks team for the great comments and yep it just does not get much better than yesterday was.
S & D The tamper i was on yesterday TJ091 is a old type cat tamper and can do just over 1km of track per hour.
This morning i was on a Different TJ machine that is not a continuous action tamper (cat) in that it has to tamp, stop ,lift, move then tamp again and so on.
Later this morning we got shifted to the HUGE TJ CAT tamper which does 3 sleepers at a time while constantly moving.
Yesterday i walked around 9km marking out the various amounts the track required moving, Today in a 900m section i walked 8km doing the same job but different as we were fixing the track back up after the ballast cleaner had cleaned it and moved it every which way that took us 10 hours to do.

We don't care. Twisted Evil

You still got paid and worked (walked) a scenic section of track that many would love to walk along taking pics, and went home in a water taxi.

Ah, some photos from what could be one of the most scenic parts of the railway line ever. Most of us who have seen it have only seen it from the window of a train, so photos from track level are great stuff.

Well done Greg, loving the shots of the SSR trains Very Happy

Chris thanks mate i asked the operator if i could take the pic while he was working the machine and he said cool fire away, Notice no driver while its working it only needs a driver to travel and he sits on the right side the operator on the left using that keyboard and computor tower to do the tamping with another operator in the centre cab of the machine which i did not get a pic of.
