Gor Blimey mate,
Now we've got BB distracted from his new route and crikey, I think he's right for a change. He usually is right but he's right this time. ?
Cheers

Hi R 761,
Just typing your name brings back wonderful memories of R 707 and R 761 double heading on a number of occasions. Thanks mate.
I changed from Window 98SE to Windows XP Home a few months after XP was released. Two years ago, I built a new computer and put Windows XP Pro on it. That was the third computer I have owned with Win XP on it. Neither versions of XP have ever interfered with or caused a problem with the running of MSTS Sim, Route Editor, or RGE. If MSTS has a problem it will not be Win XP either edition. In fact as is slowly being proved Win XP is about the best Operating System Microsoft have produced. They have sold too many (their choice of words) and the demand is not slowing. As a consequence, they are getting close to running out of Activation numbers.
Cheers

Ty allan

I,m think of burning the data like pics, movies and mp3 from the slave drive onto a handfull of DVD-R disks to make some room on the slave drive. The slave drive has also windows XP for backup incase the master fails on me. The pair of harddrives on this computer is a pair of 80gigs each.

DDR doesn't have drivers you can install.

Hush now young'un , you can't talk like that around these parts.....

Phil - you may have got it working, but I think if you believe what you wrote, then that's like you saying you also had something to do with a certain resurrection on Sunday, with respect to those with such beliefs.

I have run MSTS on XP Pro, without issue for 5-6 years. Installed from scratch twice, on upgrade only to new machines. Never once having to fully reinstall to fix an issue.

Chris and Allan called it like it was, a load of bunkum....

You had no need to do any of what you asked, if only you had provided some detail, we would have helped....

Hi All,
Well said Scott.

To return to the point raised by R 761,
I assume that your system drive is C: and your Data (slave) drive is D: and that you are short of disk space. CD and/or DVD are not recognised as sound backup media, and therefore to hold the only copy of your valuable data on them has considerable risk.
Can I suggest either:-
Obtain an external hard drive for your backups OR
Replace your slave drive with a bigger drive. A 320Gb drive can be had for around $100 these days. Actually, nicely, both options would be the best way to go. I am puzzled that you have "a copy" of Win XP on your slave drive. Unless is it a true image of your system drive, it is only a backup of your data, not your system.
PM me if you feel you want to.
Cheers

Hi R761,
I use several laptop hard drives (readily available on ebay) of various sizes in cases (also available on ebay) with leads for USB as back ups for various things and they are interchangable with all computers. I personally find that several smaller hard drives better than one larger hard drive for storage and back up, it keeps things separated, but that is my personal preference.

Hi PhilC,
I have run both XP Home and XP Pro for years on both home PC and laptop without any problems and I did not have to go through what you have described for either of them.

Cheers
Russell

Sorry for being mean guy's but I got very stressed out, all I was trying to do is help out a friend that comes here on Railpage Australia™ to work MSTS on his windows xp professional computer that's all, and yes MSTS will work on any windows the piont I was trying to get accross is that if you are having some problems getting MSTS to work propally you must remove extra hardware such as a spear DDR ram driver, and remove any USB drivers exsample: Wireless Broadband, mp3 player hardware drivers like that and re-plug them in after re-installing MSTS...

I hope that this makes alot more sence now. If you still don't understand what I'm talking about. It's like re-formatting your hard drive for a new complete windows installation and this requires you to REMOVE ANY HARDWARE such as a spare DDR ram driver and USB drivers that wasn't on your computer when you first brought it. If on the other hand you don't believe me then read about it under Microsoft's help index...

Phil, sorry, you aren't listening to sound advice here.... If it worked for you fair enough, move on.

We get niggly when you ask for help, we give it, then you ignore it and cook up some massive level of effort which in reality and our collective experience is not required to fix the problem.

So you aren't viewed as mean, more as annoying in that context.

If you are stressed out fixing a PC, mate, take a big breath - in life that's not stressful.....finding you have testicular cancer, mate I reckon that'd be stressful, nothing else rates...

I was wrong it wasn't Microsoft Windows XP Home and Professional Editions because MSTS works on them both fine it's the upgrade of MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP MEDIA CENTRE EDITION that MSTS dosen't work propally on as I have this installed on my computer now to give it a test and the problem is that when I click on MSTS icon to play it comes up and then crashes the game it's hard to explain, I am downloading Windows XP service pack 2 to see if that fixes MSTS up if not then I would have to install Microsoft Windows XP without the MEDIA CENTRE upgrade...

Any help to work out how to get MSTS to work propally on Windows XP Media Centre Edition would be most greatful. Very Happy

Maybe you should reinstall the Operator of the Operating System.

Cheers,

Craig.
