Here at Weston on the SMR,I just heard a different train horn and raced out the front to see two, what looked like victorian T class in CFCLA colours, pulling a shortish rake of bogie flats, each having two open-topped containers full of coal.
There also was, I think, one hopper wagon in the consist.
Does anyone know the story about this?

Any times, Jumboman? I'm off work on Thursday and might have the opportunity to get out with the camera.

From what I hear, South Spur Rail Services (SSRS) have a contract to haul containerised coal out of the loader at Pelton. Currently using a pair of CFCLA T class, but the eventual plan is to use 48 class, possibly displaced from western work by other locomotives?

Interestingly, a number of the containerised coal containers have the Queensland Rail (QR) logo on them. Don't know who owns the container flats, they look standard (nothing like those blue ex-open wagon ones that SSRS has a fleet of).

Hope that helps! If anyone can correct me, please do so.

I think they are aiming for one return service a day, eventually getting it up to two - if both services are to be done with the same rake or two rakes, it's yet to be seen. Certainly in January, Pac Nat had two rakes working their Pelton trains.

Yes, I went up on the "first day of operation" officially, and got there too late, apparently. Was talking to an "interesting fellow"* who was f'ing saying that the f'ing things hat already f'ing left the f'ing branch and the f'ing other rake run by f'ing PacNat had already f'ing returned and headed towards the f'ing mine.

Was a little disappointed, to say the least.

The T's are sitting at East Greta Jct 08.00 waiting for a PN job to come off the branch. Also loading at Pelton is the second PN train.

The Ts are only going to be on there until the end of the month, before they should be replaced by some Austrac 48s.
So take your photos now.
Rumour has it that the service will also run on Saturday and Sundays, starting from this weekend.
Um...stay tuned.....
