Yesterday I rode a cityrail service from Central bound for the North shore.
Just after leaving Centran and entering the tunnel there seems to be a rough / wavy section of track which makes the carriages rock'n'roll !
What's with that?

It's worse if you're standing inside a Tangara. I've seen unsuspecting passengers fall over.

Yeah. If you were to see a 3D diagram of the tunnels between Goulburn Street and Town Hall, they'd look a fair bit like mating earthworms, as they sort themselves out to arrive on the appropriate platforms. They do some funky stuff.
Still, I like El Shunto's explanation better.
