The upgraded V2 SMR 10 class locos are now available for download from the CTN website, as well as upgraded V2 RVR Kitson class locos. These models are basically the same as the originals, and have only slightly improved detail, but much better textures and colouring.

The additional pack of SMR 10 class locos - 22, 25 and 31 in 1980's condition are now available for download from the CTN site.

The main differences for the 1980's locos - buffers removed (except 25), auto couplers added, front shunters handrails added and rear coal bunker extended.

Sigh. Why do we bother writing all these tutorials?

Ah Ha!!!! Sorry about that - at the time I made these I had a LOT going on - in my MSTS resources I have a lot of things going on, not only for NSWGR but also for some British LMS stuff.

The problem was when I was searching for a suitable .eng file from my masters to modify for use with the 20 and 26 classes, I inadvertently chose a file that had 'chain' couplers - even with the extensive testing, I missed this fact!!!

To change from 'chain' to 'automatic' couplers:

Open the .eng file with WordPad, scroll down to the line -

Coupling (
Type ( Chain )
Spring (
Stiffness ( 1e6N/m 2e6N/m )

Change the word Chain to Automatic, and re-save the file, making sure the file is saved in Unicode format.

That's all there is to it.

Again, sorry for the 'glitch' in the files.

Regards, Brian

Thanks for the tip.
Only problem i have noticed was wagons seem too close to the loco when changed to automatic coupling.
No big problem i can live with that.

I think you're seeing things - changing the couplers from Chain to Automatic (or vice versa) does NOT alter the length settings. The spacing between locomotives and wagons is set in the vehicle lengths in both the .eng files and .wag files. If a wagon looks too close to the loco, it is probably that the wagon length setting is not correct!!!

When I make my locomotives and other rolling stock, I try to set the lengths so that the loco, wagon or carriage length is set to the centres of the auto couplers (or the pseudo automatic coupler centres if fitted with screw or three-link couplers) - this should then show the automatic couplers correctly engaged when any two of my vehicles are coupled together.

I've just downloaded the SMR 1980's locos from the CTN site again and re-installed them - yes, 22 is blue, and 25 and 31 are definitely GREEN.

If you have an older style CTR monitor, I've found that as they age, the colour settings seem to go off and darken after a couple of years. Other than that, I have no solution for you, as they are correctly coloured on my system, and this is from the fresh download this morning!!!

Hey the 20 & 26 class are really awesome models but don't know if it's just my downloads or not but the whistle dosen't make any noise with them. That's the only downer but otherwise a great model, nice to see more older NSWGR steam locomotive classes out on MSTS. Very Happy
