It is highly unlikely that Echuca is being upgraded from Class-4 track to Class - 2 track which would allow 115kmh for loco hauled and 130 kmh for DMU.

What appears more likely is that it is being upgraded to Class-3 with CWR which should allow 100kmh for loco hauled and 115kmh for DMU .

A close look at the photos will show that much of the ballast is fouled with gravel, and although a 4 inch ballast top up and lift / tamp is allegedly involved this should allow Class-3 but not Class-2 that would require more sleepers per km, and ballast cleaning and a greater ballast top up .

Current average speed Bendigo - Echuca is 75 mins for 80 kms = 64 kmh.
At a line speed of 100kmh the ave speed goes up to 89kmh and the travel time comes down to around 55 mins. At a line speed of 115 kmh the ave speed goes up to 104 kmh and the travel time comes down to around 46 mins.

According to the VICSIG web site, the distance from Bendigo to Echuca is 87.75kms, which I rounded up to 88kms for the purpose of my calculations. If the track goes to class 3 and 115 for DMUS, then I suggest the average speed would be 105kph. This would equate to a travel time of 50 minutes. So I was "slightly out" in my earlier estimates.

Does the Echuca/Denni freight still run?
If so, can anyone provide its 'rough' timetable in and out of Echuca??

thanks

9383/84 or 9083/84 hasnt run for quite a while now. I dont think it will start up anytime soon either due to there being no rice.

Thats a shame, although I guess it was somewhat predicted while work was taking place cleaning up and 'reopening' the Toolamba-Echuca line last year.

IMO the speed limit on the line from Bendigo to Echuca may be increased with the new T/T to be released in November.

AFAIK, all the works have been completed.

As an aside, whilst driving north last week, I followed the line from Moama to Deniliquin and it's obvious there's been no train to Deni for a long time.

Idea Given the population of Deniliquin is about 8,000, I wonder if it's possible the line from Echuca to Deniliquin may be upgraded in the same vein as the line from Bendigo to Echuca.

The Vinelander, from Melbourne to Mildura was Victoria's only overnight sleeping car train which was launched 8/8/1972.

Ballan, the best town, on the best railway line, in the best state, of the best country in the World.

Longreach, Qld here we come Exclamation The old pioneering town will never be the same. Laughing

Are you suggesting extending the V/Line train from Echuca to Deniliquin ?

0% chance of that happening !!!

The way the economy Is going In the Deniliquin area the town could become a ghost town ?

This proposed carbon trading scheme Is going to ruin the economy of Australia. "Dump It Now"

If the (Economy) is running out maybe a cheaper mode of land based Fright Transport is needed?
If the (Economy) is running out maybe a better management of resources is needed?
If the (Ecomomy) is running out linking the township with a faster cheaper land based transport to larger sustainable (Economy) townships for work is needed?
Why is the word, Economy used by Aussies so much.. It’s a Bull Dust term for no vision. (cant think without my glass of AAA rated ego!!!!)
Remember Nokia was a logging company in Finland, what will Deniliquin be remembered for? I hope its something sustainable.

If the (Economy) is running out maybe a cheaper mode of land based Fright Transport is needed? The V/Line coach service to Deniliquin Is the same price as what a train service would be !!
If the (Economy) is running out maybe a better management of resources is needed? There Is a water war going on and Government can't Agree on anything !!!
If the (Economy) is running out linking the township with a faster cheaper land based transport to larger sustainable (Economy) townships for work is needed? As I said a train won't be cheaper and I don't think It would be any faster ether, and if the town dies few people would use It !!!Why is the word, Economy used by Aussies so much.. It’s a Bull Dust term for no vision. (cant think without my glass of AAA rated ego!!!!) It Is how the Government and Business world talk !!!

Also It must be acknowedged that Deniliquin Is In NSW not Victoria.[/b]
