I'd be happier if the mods would provide some reasoning or response when closing reports without doing any actions, rather than doing so quietly Exclamation

"Wasting our time" doesn't seem to go down too well as a reason.

standard_gauge,

Your warning level has been changed to 10%. Below is the data for this warning:
Postwhoring, trolling, and not stopping after being asked *nicely* to do so by a moderator;Increased warning to 10%

hmmmm Shocked talk about why people want to leave Railpage Australia™ er?

Where is this "nicely to do so" thing from "which moderator"? I don't see anything in my mailbox, and things are lock immediately after stuff get post, and if "trolling/post whoring" concernned, bevan would have to be warn as well, since he put nasty msg as well(plus a moderator continously attack M.J.!)

Besides, everything I post recently came directly from newspaper, including the title , not faking any of it Cool I think some things people said about the moderators here are true Shocked this proved it!

Experiment, success! Cool

The "nicely" part was right (here) - written by myself - as the last post on the "Shallow Sydneysider look down interstate" thread. The thread hasn't been deleted, everyone can see it. I would have assumed that you would read replies to your own threads.

I'm hoping that things settle down and you can post more international news: I wonder how that Japanese cat Station Master is going, and I'm always interested in Shinkansen stuff - even if I think they shouldn't have gone past the 500 series.

As a mod, i have an olive branch in one hand, and a lump of 4x2 in the other. Guess which one I like using least.

I like being "Good cop". MGH™ likes being "bad cop". It usually works out. But when i say "Mate, give it a rest", and less than 24hrs later you post "A new and improved Sydney motorist sux thread!", it's kinda spit-in-your-face material.

Huh?

The reason that we don't reply to reports in which no action needs to be taken is that...well...no action needs to be taken. Most of the time it goes a little deeper than that, with the report being nothing more than a time-waster.

Hence "wasting our time" doesn't go down too well as a reason for not taking any action.

Spot on. When somebody politely asks you to stop doing something, and you ignore them and continue, what do you suppose we think of that?

You blokes insisted on buying the four-cylinder Apparatus with no low gear ratios. I tried to tell you at the time, but did you listen?

RailPictures do the same thing, Oscar. It comes from the sheer volume of appeals and reports that the administration/moderation team receive. They simply do not have time to personally respond to every request.

A pile of other companies to the same thing when you email them; QR, CityRail, Commonwealth Bank, Suncorp, RACQ. You send a heart-felt email and their robot sends back response.eml.

On another forum that I occasionally use, there is a box to check if you want a response to your post report, which is set to 'no' by default. Would that be feasible or would it be wasting time to make a response for each report which 'yes' is checked for? Or would it mean that less responses would be needed as the majority would have specifically agreed to not wanting one? Idea

With some of these large organisations will you eventually get a personal reply, even if it may take weeks, as I have had with RailCorp/CityRail. In many instances your heart-felt email may get a personally addressed response taking some time to arrive which does not answer your queries and simply tells you what it says on their website!

The Report Post console does have the option (For moderator's) to provide feedback to both the reporter and the poster, however, that is causing problems at the moment in that the PM's it sends out can't be opened.

So lately, I've simply been deselecting that option and actioning the report as I feel best.

Not gonna happen. Too little benefit for far too much work.

This site is staffed by volunteers, whereas your large corporations have people paid to answer emails. They call 'em "Secretaries".
