RE: The zoo train.
Today, I was at Redfern, doing a mod to some Tulloch cars at the old carriage works and T4828 im pretty sure was part of the second zoo train. It still had some adds inside it and between the cars still had the paint.
I took some photos, ill put them up later.

But the Budd stainless finish is very difficult to make paint stick to - look at all the blue stripes that are now basically peeling off. (I wish they'd take them off at Maintrain - it shouldn't be that hard.)
If the guys at Petersham have a high pressure water jet and some solvent, they'll get it off in less time than it took to paint, which should discourage them eventually.
The odd parts on 8020 fitted by Goninan might take the paint better, because that was never polished. The right hand side of the gondola was completely replaced, along with the fluting forward of the passenger door.

M636C | But if security was tightened, that would discourage the idiots completely.
The blue stripes have held on for this long quite well. Must've been a very high quality paint used to have the blue stripes stay on for this long (although as M636C said, it is gradually peeling off now).

Now that didn't take long. Security needs to be stepped up at Petersham - those paint jobs are happening all to frequently. (I get what you mean - well I'm pretty sure I do) |
Please, nobody bother to put up photos of the new paint job. The "artists" provided an unimaginative and completely forgettable livery.
Perhaps the training of the correct use of graffiti remover is on the upcoming syllabus for new employees...

The graffiti on the V set is only on the station side. The other side has not been touched at all. I have seen no attempt to clean it of as I have been at the College this week.

I have noticed that they have cleaned it up when I went there today. Most of it. You can still see bit of it on the underframe. I think that they should make the compound more secure as it will only happen again unfortunately.

8020 has been hit by graffiti again. 9204 looks to have escaped it this time. 8020 was clean when I left Petersham on Friday and when I went to work to today it was covered.

One point concerning the photos of Tulloch double deck trailers at Redfern which doesn't seem to have been addressed is that some cars have the multiple unit receptacles duplicated at the ends (one each side of the end doorways) while others have these receptacles placed on only one side at the end. This difference is thought to date from the early 1970s, when 53 Tulloch double deck trailers were paired with 53 Comeng double deck motor cars, in some cases using the basic cabling arrangement by economising on fittings.
Cars T4801 - T4838 and T4896 - T4920 retained the original multiple unit receptacles placed at underframe level.

Is that unusual? It's normal for trailers in S sets to have the jumper coupling on both sides at the number 2 end but only on the one side at the number 1 end.
