One point concerning the photos of Tulloch double deck trailers at Redfern which doesn't seem to have been addressed is that some cars have the multiple unit receptacles duplicated at the ends (one each side of the end doorways) while others have these receptacles placed on only one side at the end. This difference is thought to date from the early 1970s, when 53 Tulloch double deck trailers were paired with 53 Comeng double deck motor cars, in some cases using the basic cabling arrangement by economising on fittings.

Cars T4801 - T4838 and T4896 - T4920 retained the original multiple unit receptacles placed at underframe level.

Is that unusual? It's normal for trailers in S sets to have the jumper coupling on both sides at the number 2 end but only on the one side at the number 1 end.

In the early 1970s the arrangement would have been very unusual It was noted by Geoff Johnson, then Editor of "Railway Transportation", in his article on the 53 original Comeng double deck motor cars So I thought I'd be pro-active and explain it.

The means by which Sputnik motor cars could multiple with C3803 (now T4799), incidentally, is shown in my photo in an article in "Under The Wires" a few years ago.

I hope that one will be going to RTM & the other to SETS.

The RTM already has one; C3804.
A trailer would be considered duplicate stock as they are of the same basic design.

Correct authority was obtained for all photographs in rail corridor and depots. note that some are taken from the cab.

The more we post about the senseless graffifi, it just means we're paying attention - the less attention we give it the better, imo. We don't post every time a C-Set in Campbelltown Yard gets a new livery, do we?

Better to just grumble quietly to ourselves - the less attention they get the better Mad

Regardless it is still there, it is still going to happen and the fact it gets brought up so much and corresponding posts follow eg "smegging vandals" just adds to it... in other words, dont mention it to start with at all?
