My Revenge of seeing HPC402 was a Total SUCCESS Rock 'N Roll! Bounce Drunk after what happened last time at Rhodes with the uncontrolable swearing.
Caught her coming through Hawkesbury River this afternoon on time. She ran like a Beauty as I, Syd3642,Fred3801 and 1979 looked on. I also got it on footage but the main thing is the photo Wink .

HCP402 approaches Hawkesbury River

I've taken plenty of shots and I think is the best one from my point of view.

Enjoy Very Happy

I can back Syd3642 up by presenting my photos. Was a absolute pleasure to see and hear 402 as she trundled along.

Thanks Greg Very Happy I think the last time HPC402 ran for ARTC purposes was back in 1998-9 or something like that so it has not pratically ran for the last few years. Yeah, but thanks mate Cool

A single DMU - that looks so strange in NSW Shocked. Back in Victoria I was used to seeing single Sprinter railcars running around and I have seen the single poxboxes (3000 class) in Adelaide but never a single railcar in NSW! Good photos all Smile

I've ridden HPC 402 once when it was doing Radio Test duties down here in the S'thern Highlands Region.
It was leaving Picton for Moss Vale just after I signed off duty, so got a ride home on it instead of waiting for the usual loco hauled pass 30 minutes later.
Very bumpy trip it was too Exclamation

Darrin... SNAP mate.... I got to do the same Dubbo to Parkes going home pass too. Laughing Laughing Cool

So that's what that single ol' World Vintage DMU/Railmotor was I saw parked at Dubbo in the old Syd. End Railmotor dock all those years ago, it would have been '98 / '99 too, thanks for the history lesson their boys, esp. Teki Exclamation ... (Syd.3642)

Well actually, these 400s used to roam around with traliers. 402 was the only one modified to operate as a single unit (ie, luggage area removed to accommodate First class seating).

Glad to see you all getting some great shots. A shame that I couldn't get out and may be unable to get any on return trip Wednesday either.

It may more accurate to say that they were also able to operate as single unit (as they ran around the trailer as required, IIRC) and that this car was converted to accommodate the passengers that would have been in the trailer.

NOTE: HPC 402 is making a trip to the Epping-Chatswood Line on May 29th. Posted here.

It seems that 2008 is the year of the HPC402 Wink
It was a delight to see her running again but shame that the next run of the Epping-Chastwood line is in the Dead of Night Evil or Very Mad

The last stompping ground of the 400 was on the Inverell line.

I only ever saw the 400 class in service once that I recall. It was south of Junee on the main line. I think this was running a connection to Albury from the Riverina express on a day that it went to Griffith.

What amazed me was that it was made up 400/500/400/500.

I assume that both power cars were crewed, and they were using the movement to transfer the second two cars to a junction station after overhaul.

On the subject of overhaul, 402 looks as though the sides have been repainted more recently than the ends. At first I thought it was just the shadow on the front, but the rear was the same.

Also, only the antennas on the platforms were added for the testing. Everything between the platfoms are radiators, exhausts and air intakes, just standard 400 stuff.
