In fairness I think we (as a generation) swore a lot more than out parents would have liked us to. Now that our generation ARE the parents, the kids have to go the extra yard to shock. I agree with MGH™, it's not something to encourage, but I also agree with the others in that it's probably a lost cause.

I am SO moving to Victoria Street!!

May I relate to this wondeful thread, some thoughts by the show Red Dwarf's creator.
He states:
Quote:
The show's creator Grant Naylor [a collective name for writers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor] explained their reason for choosing "Smeg" saying "We wanted to invent a futuristic curse word which had the right sort of consonant and vowel arrangement to make it sound like a genuine . . . curse word." Doug Naylor later mentioned during an online chat session that "I think it's Latin for clean, also there's an Italian washing machine company called Smeg. Also each of the letters S-M-E-G stand for smelting metal and something to do with the washing machine process." Some fans of the series have claimed that "Smeg" is a derivation of the word "Smegma" but reportedly, the authors have denied that interpretation. The Random House Dictionary 2nd Edition Unabridged describes "Smegma " as "a thick, cheese-like sebaceous secretion that collects beneath the foreskin or around the [specific part of the female reproductive organ]*." Smeg!

*My italics.

So, going on the 1st idea put out by the creator, Smeg is word designed to be a futuristic swear word.....which means Railpage Australia™ is replacing a selection of swear words with another swear word!
Some swear words are unique to a geographic location, or ethnic group, so in practice, there should be no diference between a swear word used in these situations, and one used on a tv show! Each has the same impact of a swear word whether used on the streets of Melbourne, or on a tv show.

Just some food for thought Very Happy

I work in a high school, I know what they're like Smile

Like I said, I didn't say the kids don't swear, rather that we shouldn't be encouraging it.
