I believe that starting next Wednesday, 5 of the old prospector cars will in Kewdale will be lifted onto trucks and taken to a scrap yard in Forrestfield for scrapping.
One Power car and a trailer will be saved for ARHS.

Experience, something you gain just after you needed it.

I can comfirm that for you the last revenue run of the Old Prospector cars was June 2003 (kalgoorlie run) and July 2004 for the running of the old cars 902/904 on the MerredinLink and AvonLink Run.

does any one know if the powering and trailer car be running again for any special occassion???

A few people attended the funeral procession today as Prospector cars 902 and 904 were carried on many wheel hearses to their final resting site.

The world is being strangled by public liability insurance and litigation and nobody seems to notice!

I am surprised no one grabbed at least one for another use given the interest in old coaches even if it ended up on a farm, also surprising that none of the companies up north saw some value in a corporate car or two, especially FMG who appear to have a different approach to the others even if it sat on a siding somewhere.

Would like to see one unit of the old girl up and running sure will bring memories on the old prossie on my first trip on it in 1995.

We shall all pay our respect to 902 and 904 and the rest of the prossie rolling as they have done an excellent job carrying passengers from perth to kalgoorlie since 1970's.

Anyone with photos of the old girls please put them up as we cherrish them lol and remember them in our train spotting hearts.

IMHO it's great to hear that the ARHS will get two of these cars. They are an important part of WA's passenger rail history.

Yes the scrappies believed to be $50k for the five or $10k each. These are giant cars out of gauge even in eastern USA so the obvious only buyers are scrappies.

Sad, But remember two units have been set aside for preservation by the ARHS. In the past items for preservation were selected on the basis of first of class, but in this case the furure came more to the fore with the selection of the two remaining operational units. This in the future may afford the Rail enthusiast's of Western Australia or further a field the oppurtunity to ride on this famous train. Here' hoping.

I still remember the smell of the diesel billowing out on the Kalgoorlie platform, the very comfortable interior...... well the seats anyway, brake fires, air con breakdowns, mechanical faults and even a lightning strike, yeah If they had a frequent rider program I`d have to come close. RIP Old Girls! Crying or Very sad
