I know.

What about the 2.15 Coalcliff to Port Kembla? I thought that would be weirder. How/why does the train start at Coalcliff and where does it come from?

And well the 1.53 would most probaly be to pick up the school kids from any schools to drop them off between those 2 locations.. Smile

How: Train terminates at Thirroul goes empty cars to Coalcliff forms down service all stations Coalcliff to Port Kembla.

Why: Maybe a school train. who knows ask timetables they might be able to help you.. Smile

Now if you want to start talking weird, take a look at some of the drivers diagrams.

I haven't caught it yet, but my favorite "weird" CityRail stopping pattern would have to be the 6:42am Lithgow service, stopping:

Syd Terminal, Strathfield, Parra, Penriff, Springwood, Lawson, Wentworth Falls, Katooomba, all to Mt Vic, Bell/Zig on request, then Lithgow Cool

I also like this once-a-day pattern on the Southern Highlands:
Goulburn, all to Mossy, Bowral, Mittagong, Picton, Macarthur, Campbelltown, Syd Terminal Cool

Not really weird, but I like my long express runs. There's a Broadmeadow-Morisset express at 4:46am which looks good too - and Morisset-Gosford-Hornsby on the 7:56am ex-Newcastle sounds good too!

I think it's a fast train so the Dubbo XPT doesn't get stuck behind an all stations up the hill

In the early 90's:

Sydney Terminal, Strathfield (pick up only), Liverpool (pick up only), Campbelltown thence all to CANBERRA.

AND yes that was a CityRail service. Canberra passengers were Booked Seats. The train was the combination of The Canberra Express and The Southern Highlands Express.

How about All Stations To Helensburgh.

If I ever see the person who set the first car on fire today. Watch out Razz .

And to the peoples who decided to travel in the front ISOLATED car to Cronulla today. Last time I help you guys! I mean honestly if the car is locked off who walks through the transverse door to sit in there and complains that they cant get out!

Passengers Twisted Evil

Thanks

Speaking of weird, what were the stopping patterns of some trains to Campbelltown prior to the East Hills line extending to Glenfield?

There would had to have been some weird stopping patterns on trains going out there back in the day...

I used to get one in the morning that went:

Cronulla, then all to Sutherland, Janalli, Mortdale, Hurstville, Kogarah, Sydenham, Redfern, Central, Then all stations to Bondi Junction.

From memory there was a South Coast service that made a stop at Heathcote for some reason but not Loftus, Engadine or Waterfall.

Note sure if that is still around.

One 'unusual' run would be one Carlingford line service which extends to Sydney Terminal in the AM peak, after a 5-minute stop (smoko break? Wink) at Clyde. Presumably a 4S or 4M set - must look unusual being a 4car suburban on the main west in the morning peak!

I have always thought that the South Coast line services are completely random. On a weekday, the following runs operate at least one trip, most in more than one direction, with various different stopping patterns:
Sydney Terminal to Kiama
Sydney Terminal to Dapto
Sydney Terminal to Unanderra
Sydney Terminal to Wollongong
Bondi Junction to Thirroul
Sydney Terminal to Port Kembla
Waterfall to Port Kembla
Coal Cliff to Port Kembla
Thirroul to Port Kembla
Wollongong to Port Kembla
Wollongong to Kiama
Dapto to Kiama
Kiama to Bomaderry
Wollongong to Bomaderry
Dapto to Bomaderry
Wollongong to Thirroul
Bondi Junction to Wollongong
Martin Place to Port Kembla

Compare that to the Blue Mountains line, which only has Upside-down Razz
Sydney to Lithgow
Sydney to Katoomba
Sydney to Mount Victoria
Sydney to Springwood (some continuing from Nth Shore)

Don't forget Bondi to Helensburgh Wink

On another note, 1979, I catch that train to school from Mortdale so it still exists.
