Finally, after 30minutes of fighting the server...Wink

This would be the right spot for the question.

Would anyone have the Faintest on what the long term plan is for the "Death Row" Y's at South Dynon?
To add to that, for curiosity sake, what would be the estimate Scrap Value of a Y?

Not a problem 42101.. yeah i understand that its a historical record  shot but i just wish it didn't have the glare from the outside of the shed... but i guess you can't win them all and its better then not having a photo of it at all i guess.

Y171 and Y118 seem to be the 2 PN Y classes in Geelong. V/Line Y129 seems to be the usual carriage yard shunter.

Could they be returned to service?

Do you know if it is all 4? I email to see if they are selling.

Depends what was removed from the T classes and what remains. I know the bogies were removed and the Ts placed on big blocks (I think), and whether the bogies were scrapped or stored around their yard facility. Also, depending what remains in the cab (controls, wiring ECT) and around the loco and if anything needs to be replaced. As they were  bought to be use as stationary generators, the generators and most likely the wiring/controls to start the loco would still be intact, anything else and probably the power distributers, would need updating or replacement as these Locos were sold back when VR was around (or early V/line. Lastly, to bring the Ts back into service would also depend on if the Ts bodies were kept in good condition which would help determine if they can/will be restored or if the need TLC (if the body is rusting ECT), although most locomotive bodies can be restored effectively even in a sevre rusting case. As these were only branchliners, although this goes without saying, more work would be required to allow them to be able to run on the mainline. I think these Ts can be restored to service but as I live in along away from them and the only picture if have found of them in their current state is a black and white image on the bob white electrix site so I can't tell exactly what would need to be replaced/updated and anything else to be able to put them back into service. If anyone else can add to this or correct me, please do.

I think it was around May/June. These were the PN Ys (Y110, Y113, Y121, Y138 and Y150). The other 5 Ys (Y102. Y104, Y108, Y125 and Y143) are Victorian Dot owned.

From what my dad told me after visiting last year is that they still have all the controls and are only missing the bogies.

Have just got a reply. They aren't for sale. Apparently they went to bob white electrix without bogies.

Yes, that is correct about the bogies. They do not have their bogies.

There has been rumors about the for sale status for a while now.

I had seen them on last monday on my way down and back from Geelong.

Sorry to go aff topic a little bit here but about a month ago I was able to get a close up view of the 4 T's out the back of Bob White. They are sitting on large concrete blocks but with I think some wood blocks between to loco and concrete. The bodies are a little worse for wear with some rust holes and almost rust holes at points around the loco, mainly at walkway level around the hoods. One fo them had part of the radiator frame hanging off the side of the loco as well but mechanically they are still runners and are kept maintained to be generators.

They're quite intact though, only missing bits are the bogies and a couple small covers on some near the base of the short hood. They do have some holes cut in their noses for wiring (wiring from inside the Bob White building to control them?). I would say they they could be returned to service with a bit of work, mainly cosmetically but they will still be mechanically all right because they are continuously used.

Also a couple weeks ago I went past on the Geelong train and saw what looked like a large muffler (barrel type on a frame) mounted on the top of one of the loco's. Anybody know anything about this?

Now back to Y class stuff.

Numbers are T322, T323, T324 and T343. Not sure which one is which out the back of Bob White however T343 is the only one there whith a Chopped valance so that one is recognisable.

The large muffler assembly you saw was not actually applied to one of the locomotives itself.

there is another engine housed in a shipping container next to the 4 T's, this is what houses the large barrel type muffler.

I remember a while ago seeing the bogies on concrete blocks in the yard adjacent, might wanna have a closer look next time Brendan.
