G'day all,
have recently seen on the V/Line website conductor positions vacant and was wondering if anyone knows what life is like as a V/Line connie, and what (if any) qualifications you need before applying.
Cheers, Harrison

From my experiences, if ya under 21, or even 24 forget it, they simply won't look at you even through the legal min. age is 18, they consider you haven't enough experience before at least the age of 21...
Customer Service Experience is vital, they crave it like the plague They crave examples... at best they would perfer you have had a min. of 3 jobs...
An A1 clear criminal record is a must, as is a current drivers licence & motor vehicle, they may not be to picky & allow you to get away with a motorbike if ya lucky...

not necessarily essential to be older than 21, i scored a conny job at the tender age of 19... customer service experience is ESSENTIAL, gotta be sure to sell yourself as mature, and responsible as your caring for a train load of passengers. if your considering applying, pm me and i can give you some tips
I'm interested in upgrading my twenty eight point eight kilobaud internet connection to a one point five megabit fibre-optic T-1 line. Will you be able to provide an IP router that's compatable with my token ring ethernet LAN configuration?

it seems you pretty much need a degree to become a conny these days, seems totally overboard to have pshyc tests and the like.
the offer of a position should be based on you as a person and your customer service skills, not wether your fantastic at maths or mechanical reasoning....

You have to remember the rail industry is seen as a very desirable industry by a lot of people, not just those in the gunzel/buff community.
I've found with jobs that I applied for before landing a job with the mob I am a slave to now, there was in excess of 500 applicants (as a minimum) for each job. Sometimes close to 1000 applicants and more. The selection process as you could imagine is very competitive as you have a lot of skilled people applying for only a few positions.
Keep trying, apply for everything you can. And if you so desire, it pays to apply for jobs outside of the area you live in if you're prepared to make the move.
