I was wondering when they'd run out of internal candidates to transfer from other ranks to become drivers. Cool

Craig.

Just had a call from railcorp, passed the phone interview, and going to their information session in the next few weeks (on a saturday) - perhaps they are working fast this time?

Good luck, its not easy to get in but its not impossible either. At the end of the day they are looking for a certain type of person. I mean you have to complete a 120 question psych test in the role play stage. Thats something you cant really practise for to better yourself! I had applied for a number of train driver jobs around Australia with no luck but I belived I would be a very suitible candidate. I was lucky that railcorps recruiting suited me as it allowed me to show skills without having the pressure of the dreaded interview. Im not very good at the old one on one interveiw!
The only tip I can give you is to maybe do a search on the net about comprehension tests or go to your local book store as they have books on testing. In my opinion the comprehesion tests are the most important to nail, without a good result you wont get a crack at the other stages.

I put an application in on Wed. I applied for the Trainee Guards Positions back in Feb. this year & sadly didn't get past the Assessment centre...
I'm thinking the testing for the Trainee Drivers Positions will be the same tests again, if they are, well, bugger, I can't sit them for another 12 months darn it... All I can do, is keep my fingers crossed...

The more you have a go the more you'll get responses. I don't expect CityRail will even call me for the first-stage (phone interview) after the fallout between me and RailCorp last year but that doesn't mean I can't apply and if they are serious about assessing candidates on merit I should get a look in.

But that's just one opportunity out of many. I've had one offer of a loco job in WA this week (start date of the 23rd of June! bit soon, plus contact person has still not returned my phone calls asking for more info) and I spoke to someone from another company about a loco position with BHP at Port Hedland (no offer yet - just tentative, but the person phoned me direct from Port Hedland less than 5 mins after sending my resume, etc.), so things do happen eventually.

It's just the waiting... waiting... which is frustrating. I'm seeing that atm with the PN loco jobs. Nothing beats Interail for slackness though. IMHO anyway. Cool

Craig.

Unfortunately Dalts, the tests are exactly the same but instead of getting a WTT test you get the SCATT test.

Ha! It goes very quick up untill you do the medical then it's extremely slow from there. I applied for the Train Guard position back in February and they are only just doing the Criminal record check now!

Its a page full of different symbols, you are given one or two specific symbols to locate. You work through the sheet from top to bottom, marking off each instance of the symbols as you come across them. They are looking for speed and more importantly accuracy. I thought I was gone after sitting that test, but was surprised to be called to move onto the next stage.

These tests are somewhere on the net to download and try, have a google and see what you come up with. I had a look to see if I still had the link, but sorry cant find it.

With those tests they usually look for accuracy, then speed in that order, well thats what happened when I did mine, which was a while ago now. We had several pages and the symbol changed, then they added another, then changed the rules. It got harder as you went. In the end, be as quick as possible, but as accurate as possible too.

It's a bit like the computer-based aptitude testing that the ADF uses - various groups of questions which are designed to test mental/cognitive skills as there's much more to driving trains than being able to go through the motions and operate the driver's controls. Like driving a car, or riding a bike, the basics are not where the skills and abilities really come into full use, but it's when things go wrong that the experience and skills are very beneficial.

I have applied for this position.

Any more tips for the info & testing session would be most appreciated.
