My medicals are on in about 2 weeks from now. As far as this goes, I may be in the last carriage of the recruitment train Laughing Laughing

Good luck with them. Remember that you probably need to get the blood tests done at least 3 days beforehand so the results have arrived in time for the main part of the medical assessment.

It took about three months. I heard nothing for while (so you dont find out how you went in the medical only what they tell you at the time) and about a week and a half before I was to start I got the letter to confirm that I was starting. I did get a phone call before hand (about two and a half weeks before) but with the railways you need to get it in writing.

Also with the medical you may need to empty out your pockets etc so dont take much with you when you are doing the drug test. This depends on who you get.

I hope that this answers your question.

Empty out your pockets? Confused Question for a drug test? Confused
Meh.
Hey wasnt that why they took blood from me last week?

Correct authority was obtained for all photographs in rail corridor and depots. note that some are taken from the cab.

No, the blood test was to find out your fasting glucose and cholesterol levels, for cardiovascular health and diabetes risk.

The urine test is for a drug screening, and is completed on the date of your medical.

Just incase that you have got another sample on you to bypass the drug test if you wanted to. If that is the case. I am not saying that you would but the drug testers are quite skeptical.

And very paranoid! the tester left too much air in the sealable bag and popped it. She requested me to see it and watch her put the samples in a new bag! Shocked
Was all good though, just was a bit behind time wise.

Has anyone got in touch or have been contacted by verifycv ? I get daily emails from them asking me to send in forms that i have already emailed to them twice !!
I did contact them but they said that if you wish you can fax them. No follow ups that they actually recd my email . I have faxed them again my police clearance forms.
Another strange thing. One of my referees got contacted after I have recd the email from Cityrail saying that i was progressing to the next stage i.e the medicals !
Is there more to it or its just business as usual from Cityrail ??? Smile

That's all very important because if the chain of custody is broken at any point, the samples (and any subsequent results) are invalid and cannot be accepted for consideration as part of your medical assessment. Breaking the bag is considered to be breaking the chain of custody because the integrity of the samples is compromised if the bag breaks or is tampered with once sealed before the samples are removed at the 'authorised testing facility'.

The phone screening is fairly normal for RailCorp intakes and the same applies to many other large organisations where a lot of people are being filtered through the application process for a specific set of positions. You'd be surprised how many applications are culled either right after being received, or after the initial phone screening.

The important thing is that you don't know how you'll go until you have a go! That's what I'm doing and it's starting to pay off quite well. There will always be the odd unexpected response and occasionally very rude, nasty responses, but even when the result is not positive, something can be learnt from it.
