Quote:
There will be a new centre for rail freight in the Goulburn Murray region by the end of the year.

Work has started on the road and rail hub at Ettamogah, north of Albury.

Developer Colin Rees says the rail component will link into the main Sydney to Melbourne freight line and will be operating by Christmas.

He says it will give local business the option of using the rail system, which they have not had before.

"It hasn't always been an area that is user friendly, but we've certainly got that high in our sights in helping others to look at rail as an option," he said.

"I think that certainly road will continue to play a major role but rail can certainly do more than it's currently doing that's for sure."

ABC News

I guess we can be pretty certain that the CargoSprinters will take a little trip down the line from Junee to Albury. Even if they don't actually run the trains they'd be useful as shunters - cheaper than trying to get hold of a clapped out 48 and way more fuel efficient.

Go for it Colin - you deserve to do well.

Happy Gunzelling and remember, "Go by rail!"

I'd say Mr. Rees, was just awaiting that annocem't from jointly The Feds/Vic Govn't & ARTC on the Melb. Albury Line Upgrading &NE BG Gauge Conversion & the go ahead of the Wodonga Bypass project, before going ahead with this annocem't...
Would make sence wouldn't it, or is it co-incidential that this should have just popped up & debeauted into the open now Exclamation Twisted Evil

Congrats & good luck to him, he has shown he has what it takes when he first set up CRT all those years ago, before QRN took it over in a buyout/consilidation...

Why will be be a new freight centre in the Goulburn Murray?

I thought the Goulburn Valley was around Shepparton?

Someone help.

Brian

To do what with, while the Cargo Sprinters are there the pigeons and spiders have somewhere to hang out, with out them you will just have another couple of vacancies that are not earning any income,

Pigeon and spider poo is easy to clean when required. No point in sending cleaners to ensure everything is sparkling when rolling stock will be there for an unspecified period of time. Oh no, gunzels may be appalled at a bit of grime; we'd better do something about it! How about we scrub every loco that comes in too, we wouldn't want gunzels to have to suffer the indignity of dirty locos in their photos!

You may just be surprised as to why we will easily fill our roads. The sprinter is most welcome here, but it'd be better if it was able to generate income for the Rees concern.

Dear Canine who salivates on the master's command.

The Goulburn Valley Freight and Logistics Centre will be in Toolamba Road, Toolamba East. It is a 331 hectare project which will have a rail container siding, etc. It is not in Albury. The fond hope is that it will be on the Inland Rail Corridor, if that is ever built, (and aware that ARTC have other designs about the Inland Rail Corridor)...

The Goulburn Valley is a nebulous term which is frequently applied to the land west of where the NE rail line diverges at Mangalore; all places inland across to Elmore, Rochester, and up to Echuca, and across to Wahgunya are sort of nebulously claimed to be in the Goulburn Valley. Albury is not in the Goulburn Valley and has never been regarded so.

The "valley" itself is flat rivarine plain except in the Dookie Region!

Other terms apply. "Goulburn-Murray Irrigation District" and "Food Bowl Modernisation Program". Goulburn-Murray itself is used a lot and it often more correctly refers to regions bounded by these two rivers. I would not include Albury in that, but then again, polictics or cross-border state interference might have decided whether there was funding or not if certain words were not used in the project title.

Saying 'Goulburn Murray" and having the rail head for the Goulburn Valley in Albury is a little ridiculous, as you imply, Brian.

Good call!

It puzzles me when dust, spiders and bird poo is an issue. Living in the country, these things are a fact of life in any place which is open to the elements. The cargo sprinter and 852 have both been mentioned in this regard, and I wonder what is the point. Any rail facility is going to have these things to contend with, and as they do not impact on the earning ability of rail items, I fail to see the point in refering to them.

Just kinda wierd.

How long will the sidings at Ettamogah be?

Will they be loops or dead ends?

How will they be signalled?

Full plans for the "passing lanes" have been available on the ARTC site for over two years. Full details of all stages and works and programs are there, on that site.

You could quite easily spend an entire afternoon looking at works, plans, pictures and pdf files with stages and colour bars and all sorts of interesting stuff like that. I got to that site from this site about a year ago, so google and use "passing lanes" site:artc.com.au filetype:pdf
and you might have some interesting reading.

Hope this helps. Mr. Green

A little further information about this Goulburn Valley and Freight Logistics Centre:

Noticed an advert in the Shep News for a positon relating to this project. (While this appears employment related, I tender this here for background; it gets interesting)

Shep News said:

Shep News wrote:

POSITION OBJECTIVES
The Council is seeking to appoint a coordinator to project manage the development of the Goulburn Valley Freight Logistics Centre (GVFLC). The successful candidate will not be required to manage construction related tenders but will predominantly be focused on:

• Marketing of the GVFLC project to potential purchasers

• Liaison with key government agencies and departments and to ensure
funding is acquired and acquitted as required.

Project management of the Council’s efforts to establish a Food Bowl
(Shepparton) alignment for the Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail project.

I thought this was interesting as it confirmed my background knowledge taht the local council, City of Greater Shepparton, has been one of the big drivers of the inland rail project.

I checked out the postion decription and found some more:

description wrote:

Act as Project Manager for the Food Bowl Inland Rail Alliance which includes a number of Council representatives from NSW and Victoria which advocates for a rail alignment through Shepparton as part of the Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail project. Which will involve

• Acting as secretariat for the Alliance

• Organising meetings and implementing actions as agreed at meetings.

• Lobbying politicians.

• Developing marketing material to best advocate the Food Bowl Alignment.

So there is certainly a taskforce and bods working hard at it to get this inland rail corridoor passing via Shepparton. The key aspect to this is of course produce and primary industry exports. We have a huge export market in this region, with the Japanese buying tomato crops for two years in advance, as I was told recently.

I will repost this over in the employment forum with a link to the postition description.
