Was informed by a friend today who was onboard 8404 (0605 Traralgon - Southern Cross) that due to a point failure at Richmond Junction, the train, consisting of VL17, was sent through the Caulfield Loop with a pilot man, arriving into Platform 12 at Southern Cross around 08:20 (13 late).
He said that the train continued on to Flinders Street from there (not really anywhere else for it to go!)
Cheers,
Matt Julian

Thats a real surprise! It never happens to Vline trains at all! The last time I can think that something similar to this happened was in 2001 when a Vline train with N457 leading went through the loop by accident when it wasn't supposed to.
This will happen again, not tomorrow, not even today, but I have a feelong in years to come it will happen

Yes, I was on it
The Vinelander, from Melbourne to Mildura was Victoria's only overnight sleeping car train which was launched 8/8/1972.
Ballan, the best town, on the best railway line, in the best state, of the best country in the World. Currently in Longreach.

Is there any reason besides the fact that Connex takes up all capacity, why a V/Line train cannot travel via the loop every service?

I know there are concerns with Fire Alarms in the main city loop.

And a lack of ventilation/extraction of diesel fumes/exhaust, too, I assume.

R because V/Line trains run on diesel and there for emit diesel fumes that need the city loop's ventilation turned up flat out and the = extra $$'s.
Besides Flinders Street Station Is a more useful place for Gippsland travelers to get off (well that's what I think) than next stop SCS, most people get off at FSS.
This proposed carbon trading scheme Is going to ruin the economy of Australia. "Dump It Now"

Will scan it in tomorrow. Was a cool little semi suburban tour run quite a few years ago. I forget the actual sequence of stops but we visited:
- APM sidings at Fairfield.
- Webb Dock sidings
- Travelled via city loop at some stage
- Ended up at Long Island to visit the Mornington Mob who were based there at the time.
By rights the photo was actually at Museum station and not Melbourne Central!
My pics here - and the Forsayth Goods here!
