I have read that Australian Railroad Group will take over the North-West Corridor from August 1, 2008.

It will include:
- The Business Contracts;
- Train Crew Depots at Charters Towers, Hughenden, Cloncurry and Mt Isa;
- Station and Yards at Hughenden, Cloncurry and Mt Isa (not Charters Towers);
- Container Terminals at Cloncurry and Mt Isa;

You have read correct.

Although none of us working out here know fully how it is going to be worked. Many of the station staff and track workers are unsure of their futures.

Lance has kept on assuring us that our 'conditions of employment' and entitlements will not change but we will just have to wait and see???

The northwest corridor is just the starting point for ARG involvement within QR.

it's not just the north west. ARG are looking at all the regional freight areas in Qld.

I don't get it, whats the point? QR employees, ARG or QRN both are QR employees? or is this privatisation by stealth? Transfer all staff to a private operation owned by QR, does this mean they are not under the QR govt employee conditions etc?

I'm thinking this is a Qantas to Qantas Link type arrangement where the working conditions are more flexible, multi-skilled and less unionised.

By transferring employees to ARG, they are then under the ARG National Agreement.. therefore, different conditions - what those conditions are, and they how they differ, I don't know. The differences between ARG conditions and QR conditions might not be too different before too long anyway, as all QR agreements are currently up for renewal.

Not so sure about "all" regional freight areas - but more those areas that currently work ARG trains.. eg - the raw sugar trains. Mackay might be interesting, as they carry regional freight/intermodal, export coal & sugar!

According to the RTBU, non Bulk (ARG) trains on the GNR (regional freight, PSG, cattle train) will be worked on a hook'n'pull basis - although regional freight might be carried on slots on the Bulk trains.

Would it be a fair assumption that in the future, the $hitty ARG West livery will be applied to locos in the Divisions being taken over?

Regardless, still think they [QR, QRN, Interail, ARG] should have settled on one unified corporate livery.

I think more like Jetstar instead of Qantas Link.

I think it would have been better if they had setled on 1 company, not 4. I Agree with 1 unified livery - The ARG West livery isn't the best Rolling Eyes

What does this mean for rolling stock? Will there be less flexibility? If dedicated rolling stock, how far would they have to go for a major overhaul?

I hope not! Puke

Many of the 2800s have just been re-painted in QRNational. Wouldn't it be a huge waste of resources to do such a thing?

While checking for another post, I noted that ARG is not listed as an accredited railway operator on the QT web site so how can they take over anything.

They won't be on a national agreement, rather the Eastern agreement, along with all of ARG's NSW employees.

The current AER agreement is a very good agreement. It has great rates of pay, and good conditions to work to.

How it compares to QR, I don't know. However, it is one of the best (if not the best) agreements in use in NSW/Oz at the moment.

QR employees might not think so though, they probably won't be too happy to change Question

Cheers

I was informed by a reliable source at work that when QR employees transfer over to ARG, they will no longer be eligible to be in Q Super.

I was also told that the ARG agreement is far superior to the present QR aggreements, in both pay and conditions, but the big question is, for how long?

It is just the next step in the inevitable privatisation of the freight QR division, if you ask me.
