Recently, I went out to the Hills District & Western Sydney to take a look at the 3-car L set normally used exclusively for Wollongong local services which is temporarily being used to run Carlo shuttles. I had some nice sunny weather but I almost thought it would have been better if it was cloudy as the Clyde-Carlingford line is very awkward for photography!

L3 on Carlingford line shuttles

Awaiting departure at Clyde. Annoyingly the sun is on a different side at this time of year so I couldn't get the angle I was wanting to take.

Arriving at Camellia. Taken from pedestrian crossing, yes it is an uncontrolled ped x'ing with only a look for trains sign and a yellow safety line!

Terminated at Carlingford.

Notice at Camellia Station

Better be quick if you want to ride or photograph the L set on the Carlo!

Random Sandown Line Photos

Hmm, uncontrolled level crossing? On a siding leading into Patrick's.

Uncontrolled Sandown line level crossing adjacent to Camellia Station, well lit for afternoon trains. Adjacent to the former Hardies platform.

I also spotted 8005 and 81xx shunting oil wagons when I took a look at that line. However, I did not attempt to take any photos as trespassing would have been required at the spot in question. The spot in the last photo above would be a great place to grab a (legal) shot of a train arriving or leaving Sandown in the afternoon! Any ideas on times trains leave from there?

Unrelated shot of L3 at Dapto
Although I have posted this here in another thread before (thumbnail provided so you can see the preview), a shot of L3 back in it's "home" territory at Dapto on May 5 this year.

Very nice photos! I don't travel much on the Carlingford line/branch which is probably because there's not too much on that line relative to other lines. Though I did alight for UWS when I was briefly enrolled there. Nevertheless, good job.

Very nicely done - I like the first photo, despite your saying it wasn't what you wanted.

Is that the last day they will do the shuttle?

I was happy with it once I looked at it on my computer (which has now decided to smeg itself Sad), but when I looked at it on my camera, I thought "damn, the overhead ruined it" Razz. Thanks for the comment.

I have a feeling that that notice is wrong. Should it be saying the 27th of July rather than June? Considering it is a change for WYD...

27th of July is a sunday, it would seem unlikely that they would get both day and date wrong, but then again, this is cityrail Wink

More a case of either will end on Friday 25th July or will remain after they see if it is sufficent capacity or not. Exclamation

It is now the 28th of July.

Do any westies Wink, or anybody has been through the area know if L3 is still running the Carlo shuttles today? Or has it gone back to Wollongong? Smile

If it is still running, then there is an excuse to go back there for some more foaming, in particular trying out that level crossing for the freights to/from Sandown. Not sure exactly when they run though Question - have seen a GL running over Parramatta Road crossing on a weekend afternoon and an 80 shunting oil wagons, but nothing else.
