I know a few members of the RTM would be interested in X117 for perway work and general shunting.

What would an X Class Shunter be worth? Confused

Deffinatley worth a slab &a few pizza's

One would guess it to be valued at around 20/25 grand in its presant state

The X 100 class worked on the Coffs Jetty but that was their limit & later replaced by an X200. Would be flat out pulling a live engine at Thirlmere let alone one that had some rust & dry bearing condition.

What would it be worth? value of engine depending on if its working or not, & even then, more value in spare parts.

The members who are interested claimed they would like it for use on short perway trains on the loopline.

Mind you I think its a case of dreaming of a dedicated perway engine.

I think there were 2 only of them built & as they were used on very flat locations, IIRC the othe one initially was at Tocumwal & was replaced by a X200 owing to not being strong enough.

I cannot find my drivers manual for them, but before the X200's came out the high degree of underpowering was the reason to test the Aresco track placing cranes that were located at places like Walgett.

I would think you may be able to pull a half loaded S truck with one of them on a grade. Knowing what it was like working the X 200 on the Clyde to Botany trip working with 6 empty tankers was a labour for the them.

here are 4201 and 4836 minus the wording.

the green and yellow 49s appeared after 1987 as i have seen a picture of 4905 wearing candy livery taken around 1987.

the topic of green and gold locos for the bicentennial was raised for those that did not see them 8120 8172 48165 8010 8040 8604 8619 42218 were painted into the Bicentennial colours
here is a pic of them all in one location

hope this helps clear up a few things

Cheers

Several locos painted in the Bicentennial livery were available ready-to-run in HO scale - 48165, 8120 and 8172 by Powerline - and 42218 by Lima.

In fact X117 is really X217 and should have a Cummins diesel good for about 250HP.

It may have been renumbered when the train brake valve was removed, rendering it suitable for use by traffic staff rather than loco crew.

X100/X200 numbers were pretty confusing but there were only two "real" X100, 101 and 102, although X212 and X101 swapped numbers in early 1995 (I think).

An X200 was used to haul three bogie tank wagons on the Yass branch, and hauled numbers of passenger cars at Eveleigh so it should be good for perway work, even on the loop line.

Well thats your opinion but anythings fixable given money and a positive attitude

But only if the owner sees any advantage in doing so - which, in the case of the withdrawn 49 class locos, was best served by the re-use of their bogies for the 423 class. That's a practical result.

I was referring to 101 & 102, You have to go back to the G43 class to match the tractive effort of them.

Rated as a continuous TE of 3,800 at 5 mph, which is less than engine No.1 right back at the begining.

11.900 at 30%adhesion, or 7.900 at 20% adhesion.

Engine #1 had 8900lbs T/E; T-14 a 2-2-2 of 1865 had 7200lbs T/E

good comparisons, but certainly would go well in a theme park I guess.

There were originally only 2 X100-class rail tractors. X117, like a number of its siblings, was an X200-class unit originally, being later renumbered to the X100 series.
