Hi I bought a lima 38 and I thought that a Model torque motor, Digitrax 8 pin plug and Sound trax or Loksound steam loco decoder and harness with speaker and rig it up and program it to run on DC and have it changable to run on DCC aswell. Has anyone done this to a similar loco or done this to a loco with a ringfield motor? REGARDS

Mickey, while I have not bothered to put dcc in a ringfield motor powered model, there should be no problem. The British do it on a regular basis. Your biggest problem may be the inadequate pickup on the standard Lima 38. I would not consider a sound decoder a wise choice for this loco as it stands without considerable modification to add extra pickups. Most of the better quality DCC decoders will automatically run on dc.

The plan is to buy a model torque and NCE socket, rig it all up with a sound decoder and 8 ohm speaker. Remove the lighting tower and mount the light on the small speaker. Then program and then replace the body back on to the chassis and tender frame and then complete. Regards

Many people have used DCC to control ring field motors, there are no know difficulties involved.
