If the rail industry was expecting more to be spent on it in the federal budget, it's probably disappointed by the fact that only $192 million will spent. Still, maybe now there'll be some real changes made (dual tracking, commonwealth involvement in more rail projects)?

Hi 4001firstdiesel, and welcome to Railpage Australia™.

A quick note - this thread clearly is not about Railpage Australia™ itself, so doesn't belong in this forum. As you're talking about a federal issue, I'd recommend the "General" forum.

Take a while to learn the forums before you post. Also, a good idea for any newbie, spend a fair bit of time reading the "Help for newbies" forum - this is (for the most part) general, proactive advice, not "I'm having trouble connecting to the picture gallery" type reactive advice, so it's worth your while. It will, however, also tell you why you can't get into the picture gallery.

I am SO moving to Victoria Street!!

Where can I read more in terms of the projects and the detail?

Regards,
Brian

There is very little stuff in the $192m that hasn’t already been announced elsewhere.

On the one hand that’s not so bad as there is plenty of investment going on in rail at the moment. On the other hand the lack of any additional rail funding in the Budget puts a big question mark over the Rudd Government’s environmental sincerity.

Just an example of some big spending (not necessarily Federal) coming up over the next 2-4 years.

$500m over the next two years on Melbourne to Albury track (Wodonga by-pass; gauge conversion of Seymour Albury BG track; concrete re-sleepering; 2 new passing lanes)

$90m on Automatic Train Management system for interstate network

$2 billion on Adelaide suburban network over next 10 years ($650m already committed)

Approximately $300m in new locomotive orders (excluding Pilbara)
