This sort of rubbish is why everyone is staying away:

"Another half hour till sunrise, but it has lasted for long enough for me to point out that you, 8050, are every bit the troll Wheelsy is. Same goes for 4426 up the #2 end.

Surprisingly enough, I actually agreed with wheelsy's last thread too. I'd like to suggest 4401 Ltd, still representing a significant and popular loco, not a big change in title, but it would better represent what they do now.

If he was trolling, he's a tool, but I don't think he was in this case."

Another gem from a protected species.

For lease - depot, slightly used but recently renovated...

Man, you'll never change Railpage Australia™. It is just the way things are around here.

If you see a post that you think shouldn't be there for whatever reason, just report it and leave it at that.

I know I'm not Bwana's favourite poster but, since OP has decided to rubbish him, I'm going to take this opportunity to say Bwana's posts are generally notable for their good sense, factual correcteness and objectivity. If there is anybody whose comments I generally trust, its him. And the obvious comment; if lots of people are satying away from here OP is not one of them.

Thanks Billy. You're OK, you just need to lay off the fatty bashing.

I stand by what I said, and if calling trolls trolls keeps the likes of MBAX away, mission accomplished IMHO. Once again we see his hatred of me, based on my opinion on ONE issue that Roy refuses to view anything but one side's propaganda, and once again we see him insulting the person on a completely unrelated topic instead of dealing with the issue.

A part of me wants to thank whoever reported this tripe, but there's also a part that wishes I'd had the chance to do so myself.

I am SO moving to Victoria Street!!

I think It's obvious to us who actually post relative and useful information, we know why people stay away from us.

It's quite simply the trolling smegheads that are warring of Thirty Eight O freakin One, and LES this and Thirlmere that and he said this and he said that and she said this.

It happened on aus.rail, It's happened here and it will continue to happen as long as there is a bunch of foamers out there who believe they are God's gift the the rail community.

With all due respect to the moderators of Railpage Australia™, who do a fantastic job given the circumstances to keep the site the way it should be, there's always gonna be dem toofless folk hoo like to stir up a ruckus over a biiig greeen thang.

I wonder if any of the trolls on here have worked a day in their life of either the rail industry or in preservation, or done a boiler wash out or put a 60 year old steam engine up on jacks and taken off the rods.

I think not.

So all in all, ignore the trolls and keep posting the good stuff people!

I thought that I used to "stay away" because every time I came here, it was a lucky-dip whether a page would load within 3 minutes or my browser would "time-out" or the "Please Donate" to Railpage Australia™ page would be all that was seen!

Now I would have to say that after the recent changes, I am able to view the site pages with a bit of speed! The site is on-par with web sites from the early 1990's on dial-up!

I would also like to say that after seeing this site is generating 20 to 30 times it's hosting costs (at dial-up speed) in advertising revenue, I still ask myself why we are getting harassed to donate!

PLEASE EXPLAIN! Be honest, open and transparent about the volunteers that maintain this website and where the excess money goes!

I've never seen how much money is generated, so care to explain how you know?

Only Brian knows how much is donated or generated through advertising, and it's nowhere near enough to cover hosting and bandwidth.

Oh come on, you can't blame the trolls for people staying away, EVERY forums I go to has trolls to varying degrees, and they tend to last about the same length of time as they do here. I don't read Sydney/NSW. It doesn't interest me at all. I don't even look in there. However with our no-nonsense style moderating combined with the troll-hunting attitude some of our more frequent posting members have. Railpage Australia™ is in fact one of the more pleasant boards I post at. If anything keeps me away, it's the outages. And don't get me wrong, I would donate to get rid of the outages, I would volunteer my time to help "fix" the site, but I; like most people, lack the time and money to do this. The site has become a more pleasent place since I signed up about a year ago. Hopefully more people will be attracted to the site if current trends continue.

seriously guys, get over the rubbish. This site is a great source of information and yes you will always get people's varying opinions on what is and isn't a "useful post" but some of the aspects of this site I admire is that you can have your say. There are many forums out in Internet land that do NOT allow you to post anything contraversial. At RP you can cvertain take it up to anyone.

let's hope it lasts.

As for the donations, I havemade two thus far. Why, because I know just how expensive these sites are to run. How? because I am an EX website administrator. I would not be supprised if this was costing $1000's per month to run, not at all.

The cost for bandwidth would be an absolute shocker. I guess it is lucky Brian has Digital River to help out.

I'd like to see where all this revenue is coming from, too.

Link, or I call shenanigans.

Here's a few figures I obtained from Dr. Raymond Delaney of the Australian Bureau of Statistics earlier this morning.

Hope they help!

If RP is making so much money that it's over and above it's hosting costs, whatsay we put in for a paid Moderator's position, Jmc? Cool

Then again, baton-slamming is threapeautic and relaxing for the soul... Razz

I think RP's single biggest problem is that it is too lenient towards the trolls. Take the recent Wheelsy episode. Everyone knew it was him, but we as Mods are forced to wait until we can prove it to prevent claims of bias or anything like that. We also accept anyone as members, and then let them express themselves relatively freely, and while that isn't a bad thing, it can result in the noobs trying the patience of blokes like 42101 with seemingly silly questions until they learn the "right" way of RP...

For those in the industry, theres places like WoS & for those who want to tell it like it is and spin shyte, there's RB. Between these three forums, that provides a pretty good mix, it's just a pity you can't roll them all up into the one board...

Either way, if you don't like RP, you can vote with your feet. There'll still be hundreds (thousands?) of people who do like it here. The choice is yours. Wink
