Firstly, thanks to kind comments on the photos. The Photo of the day understandably is my favourite as it shows the essense of old-fashioned railway work on remote branchlines but surrounded by great scenery.
Now for the responses....

I deliver the mail for Watta and Noonbinna | You'll love this shot then!
| Ben_Daui wrote: | | Good pics Maikha & I'm looking foward to seeing this as a story in RD, I like the Tin Hare story in this months issue of RD. | Thanks! Unfortunately this trip won't make it in RD, however, there will be many other Tin Hare ones that do, going as far as Parkes, West Wyalong and Griffith, so watch this space!

Just a rivetcounting question here on this pic:

Now clearly this is a photo of you, so I assume not taken by you, yet you have claimed copyright on it? |
Hi All,
Aww Bwana, does Maikha have to be holding his camera to claim copyright? It's obvious that someone else took the pic, great shots Maikha, I like the pics taken away from the train. It makes me sad to see places like Demondrille and Binalong look so bad but I am happy to see that places like Bowing are being used for "other" things with clotheslines and washing out drying. I'd love to get a station like Binalong and live in it, I reckon that it would be the ultimate for a self confessed train nut. |
| Bwana wrote: | The rivetcounter in me says...
Copyright (within Australia) is held by the person who took the pic, unless there was an agreement between the photographer and a second party to the extent that the copyright would be held by that second party.
The non-rivetcounting part of me, of course, agrees with TLGM - Clearly this photo was taken for Maikha's benefit (as well, possibly, as for the benefit of the group he was with), and in a that setting it doesn't matter, but then in that setting you wouldn't bother marking your pics with a copyright at all, would you?
BTW for anyone new to the world of copyright, in Australia you don't need to mark something as copyright, you automatically have copyright the instant you open the shutter. There's nothing wrong with reminding viewers of that though, and overseas rules are different so it may be handy if you imagine your pic may have an international audience. | The photograph was taken by Chris Walters, who heads Railway Digest magazine and many other ARHS/nsw publications, and was the Chef on the buffet car at the time. As far as I'm concerned, he's not fussed on who owns the copyright and for a smeg mug like that I doubt he wants to!
You will note the last group shot has been credited by the bloke who took it, being the LVR Chairman. He too would not be concerned on the ownership of the photo, and believe it or not, I have discussed with both parties upon ownership, however I have credited him anyway in fairness.
Any further questions?
Anyhow, to the rest, watch Railpage Australia™ over the coming day, as I'm currently uploading photos of one of MBAX's charters to Temora and West Wyalong. Tis' shall be great!
Cheers

It was an awesome weekend. Thanks for all the volunteers at LVR that made the trip possible.
Anyone considering chartering a train, I recommend considering using the services of LVR - They were very professional, helpful and accomodating.
The mail train consist was brilliant. Very sweet to wake up on Sunday morning in the 1913 EAM sleeping car looking out the window on the cold hills and fields, with the toasty warm heating keeping the compartment nice and warm!

Don't worry Maikha, not getting up ya or suggesting any dodgyness on your part - as I've said repeatedly it's a rivetcounter point. I assume you whack the copyright stamp on all your pics, as I have done with my fotopic shots (and will do with my webshot ones once I work out how to). Also, in fairness, I have my stamp on some pics I put on fotopic that aren't mine, so I'm as guilty as anyone.
I thought it was a worthwhile point to raise (to everyone, not just you) in case anything ever comes up for which copyright WOULD be worth it.

4701 looks great in the Candy livery. All that needs to be down now is the yellow L7 logo and it will be complete.
This and RTM's 4916 would look great together on a tour.

I don't think it's finished yet, it still needs the yellow/orange on it. You're correct in that she looks great though, the LVR blokes have done a fine job on her!

I was amazed to see a few piccies of Wattamondara - I didn't know that many people even knew it existed.
Some 30 odd years ago, I very nearly owned a double block of land in the very heart of the most prestige street in Wattamondara.
My wife's maternal greatgrandfather bought them, long, long ago, on speculation that the 'new modern' town of Wattamondarra would 'expode' with its new rail link, which would allow the 'landed rural gentry' to travel easily to far flung Sydney or Melbourne!!!
It had been passed down through the family, and my wife and I were offered the land free - the big catch was, it was only worth about $1200 (for both blocks), but had over thirty years of rates owing, which came to something like $8000 (her late greatgrandfather was a shrewd old b....., and hid the land titles, so the council didn't know who actually owned the land!!!).
As you can imagine, we passed on the offer, and the family gave it to the local council in full payment for the outstanding rates. I guess that in today's inflated land prices, the blocks would still only be worth $1200 - such is progress!!!
Anyhow, was very interested to see the photos of Wattamondarra - great photos as usual, thanks Maikha.
Regards, Brian

Going to kick yourself, a block where a house burnt down recently sold for $10,000.
Thanks for the second photo Maikha.

No problem at all Brian and Albert.
I was told the price of the land blocks was 'afforable' when we went through. Was also told a property at Kingsvale was slightly dearer at only $18k, which surprised me considering it wasn't far from a regional centre like Young!
Cheers

r.e. 4701 i say leave her in the red terror scheme she is in now. Looks a treat slap on the WHITE L7 logo and some numbers and she will show us what a 47 would have looked like in red terror.

Nah!!! - It would have cost $8000 to pay the outstanding rates 30 years ago, and if you add in the rates that would have occurred over the last 30 years, the total cost would still be well over $10,000, even $20,000 for both blocks - wouldn't have made any money out of it!!!
Made much more out of moving to Brissie nearly 30 years ago - have owned our house outright since moving here (paid cash for it, no mortgage), originally worth $125k, now worth $600k+ = $475k, not a bad profit to be made from 30 years investment - this is our self-funded retirement. Sell out, move to a small cheap rural property (Qld), and invest the rest to see out our days!!!
Where I am kicking myself - when we first moved to Brissie, we had the opportunity to buy 3 blocks side by side, in the street around the corner, for $60K each ($180K), they stayed vacant till the year before last, when each sold for around $400k - if only we had bought them, we could have made just over $1M - but, as they say - dems de breaks!!!! - buying them would have pushed our financial situation, at the time, beyond breaking point. You win some!!! You loose some!!! I'm comfortable with that!!!
