Hi Maikha/All,

It's a wonder you haven't tried for a Leyland Tiger or Leopard both of which will do 100km/h on the freeway/open road? The only sad part is that they most probably won't have airconditioning. BTW, I have a bus authority and log book if that helps?

Mike, Adam, all

It's to my understanding the bus supplied to us is fitted with a high-speed diff, which will allow us to do the 100km/h or so along the F3. Again, I'm not particularly fussed on our speed, if we're having a good time along the way.

Thanks!

Cheers

You know what, the avarage speed of a train along that streach of line is around 80 kph anyway so time wouldn't really matter. At the end, it should all be good with everyone being around Razz

Didn't think of that!

It could be worse. It could be a Trackwork Bus, that can go 115km/h on the F3, but has to dart off to go to Woy Woy, Gosford, Wyong, Morrisset..... Twisted Evil

Man, this is gonna be a great trip! I can just imagine gunning along the F3 in a this bus, waving at the motorists... Mr. Green
Come on, it'd be great to see as many people as possible - we'll be helping a heritage group; and having a great time while at it!

Having seen some of the coaches used on rail and the crunching of gear boxes a mkII would be nice and it would be nice to experience one with a highway diff, actually on a highway Twisted Evil Instead of trying to cheat some high speed running out of it on a metro road....

Thanks for nothing Costa!

Hello. To all visiting the RVRM, have a great day and enjoy seeing SMR 30.

It may well be worth your time while there though to enquire about seeing in person the current condition of the following: Former SMR / RVR engines 22, 24 and the historic No.25 - the loco hijacked at the closure of the RVR during a protest in late 1987. It's a fact that these engines are in a very sad state of neglect, along with former RVR Kitson locos No. 9 "Pelaw Main' and No.10 "Richmond Main'.. both of these are little more than rust buckets, and the former SMR locos 22, 24 and 25 are not far behind.

Just ask to see them while you visit - and also, you might like to enquire about the state of the historic ROD locomotive, which has been lying around the site in pieces for many years, following a never finished restoration attempt.

Please remember the RVRM were given former SMR / RVR locos 22, 24, 25 and 30 in running condition, complete and with all fittings by Coal & Allied in around 1989.

It is very sad to see what 20 years of being at the RVRM has done to these engines - in particular, request to have a look at the blue-tanked SMR 22 and you'll see what I mean.

The more I hear, the angrier I get Mr Timmins.. Tie down the safety valves and burn the coal brightly, for we must make Freedom Central by Noonfall!

One thing you have to remember is that RVRM are volunteers like most preservation railways in Australia. Money and manpower (or distinct lack thereof) contributes to the smeg state of some of the locomotives.

While I agree with you mate, It's not good to see historic locomotives lying around in pieces or incomplete, they need people. And one thing that has scared a lot of people off is the very few wankers they have there that come with all preservation groups that just like to fire the engines (or attempt to do so) and nothing else.

This is a big problem I see with so so so many people here on Railpage Australia™ (not directed at you Angry). Half the people here would not know the difference of firing an engine flat or on a slope. Or what It's like to have some bugger stuff a newbie around on their first boiler washout getting them soaked more than they need to Razz . Or what It's like to have something you've worked on in steam after toughing it out doing all the crap jobs that just need to be done. Or pulling sleepers by hand in the 35C day with no shade.

Point of this is that people are more than happy to be foamers/gunzels and get in the way and critiscise efforts, but when it comes time for a donation or membership form everyone seems to just magically disappear? Get my drift?

Seeing as though I'm now going to be very shortly moving up Newcastle I'll be more than willing to volunteer my time to if nothing else black oil and keep these locomotives out of the elements.
