I was just wondering, why does Railcorp have a renewed TOC Waiver for movement of the SCT locos when all have been delivered or are there more SCT locos to come?

Thanks, Hurstville1

Vince,

SCT014 arrived into Sydney on Thur 7/8 with a pair of MZ locos on IRA's 5166. As that train only runs as far as Botany, she was reported running light out of Sydney around 4am Friday 8/8 morning. From what I can tell, she swung by Braemer to pick up the SCT well wagons that were built there as the was sighted through Yass with about 23 wagons behind her.

SCT015, iirc, is still at Cardiff.

This is all second hand information, so I hope it helps you somewhat Smile.

Just because they're in service, doesn't mean they're certified to run over the RailCorp network unrestricted. That's the purpoise of the TOC Waiver.

So basically, RailCorp is concerned that if these things start pulling trains over the Blue Mountains, they'll come to a stand and the rail will start moving underneath the loco. More commonly known as Rail Creep. Well, not quite, but you get the idea.

They don't know what kind of effects such a high HP-high adhesion loco can have on their tracks, yet, so they want to know more before they'll let the actually power a train. Until then, they can run throughout the network including as lead loco, but must be "offline"...

If you had read past what you quoted above, you would have also seen that the SCT will be powering between Cardiff & Botany as indicated in the TOC Waiver title.

"Thursday 21st August 2008
This TOC Waiver permits the operation of Train Number 5166, comprising 1 x SCT class locomotive (powering) and 2 x MZ Class locomotives (both powering) hauling a trailing load of not more than 1850 tonnes between Cardiff and Port Botany."

Umm nooooo....If you read the TOC Waiver that currently applies to the SCT loco's for the RailCorp network, it expressly states the loco must be run "offline". And just where does the title "Movement of new SCT Locomotive on the RailCorp Network" show it allows an SCT to operate powering?

You're referring to TOC Waiver 102-478, published after I typed the above. And that only applies to a single train movement. Not the operation of the SCT's on the rest of the network.

TOC waiver 102-478 permitted the SCT to be powering on train number 5166, however it states the movement is authorised for Thursday 21st August 2008 only.
Quote:
This TOC Waiver Supersedes TOC Waiver number 103-418 for this movement only.

TOC waiver 103-418 states that
Quote:
It is acceptable for this locomotive to be marshalled as the lead locomotive in a locomotive consist. When this is done the SCT locomotive can be live however the control system must be in the “off line” position.
AND
Quote:
This TOC Waiver Supersedes TOC Waiver number 103-406.
