Thanks again everyone - plenty of interesting stuff coming through!

Next time I'm doing some highway archaeology in the area I will look for any traces of the old formation near Four Mile Creek as I photograph the old highway.

Will also try and get my hands on that book too...

People who talk out their asre usually have bad breath.

In regards to the New England Highway bridge I can tell you that the deck of the bridge is a shared road/rail affair, with the rails and sleepers set in tar and road runoffs and stop signs for same either side of the bridge. I climbed up and had a look approximately a year ago when workmate who was driving the call truck had to pull up there to answer a phone call. I have only ever seen trains go across there twice. It's a matter of being there at the right time. Also, I can add that there were derailments in about October 2004 and August 2007 at the junction at Thornton, both involving 'Batwing' type wagons derailing mid train on the crossovers between Down Coal and up coal. I saw both of these accidents and their recovery operations in progress.

Very interesting pic of the 24 class in the shed also.

It's creepy crawly season, so stop those creepys from crawling, particularly if its a TERMITE!
