I stopped at Clarkefield the other and it is tiny yet passenger trains stop there at least 12 times a day in each direction on week days. Why is it still open when there is essentially a pub and a few houses there. I don't want stations to close but if Harcourt is closed why is clarkefield still open especially when Riddles Creek is so close
is it because of Lancefield people drive there.

Simple more people who live at Clarkefield travel on V/Line trains as to Harcourt.
(Clarkefield Is In easy commuting distance to/from Melbourne)

Harcourt was closed as part of the 'New Deal' of 1981:

I presume back in that time they were both pretty useless stations, with patronage only growing in recent years with improved services and more commuters living further out from Melbourne.

There's little parking at Clarkefield for Romsey/Lancefield users, who are better off using Riddell (or Sunbury/Gisborne) anyway
The fact that it's still open is just another example of Vline's general silliness.
The thing should be closed.

The upgrading of passenger services on the bendigo line together with a surge in petrol prices has contributed in a positive manner in terms of patronage on this line.
I would also expect Harcourt will reopen given time. The entire bendigo corridor is undergoing a building boom. It stands to reason Harcourt should be available for passengers.
Further, has there been any further information on rails running through to Eaglehawk ??

Sunbury's urban sprawl will reach Clarkfield soon. A station north of Sunbury is probably a good idea in the long run.
Close it then it will just have to be reopened in 20 years time.

Yeah Yeah, ok smarty pants. What I really meant was to ask if Melbourne V/Line passenger service, does it terminate at Eaglehawk or is it still Bendigo?

The 0603 service starts from Eaglehawk and the 1415 ends at Eagehawk, then the 1615 service starts at Eaglehawk this happens on weekdays only.
The conductor and (driver- only sometimes) gets changed over at Bendigo for the 1615 service.
on weekends Eaglehawk only get the Swanhill passenger trains, oh and the local buses

I recall there is a school in there area which is serviced by Clarkefield station. Hence one of the reasons why it is still open today.
(or is that a different station I'm confusing?)

The Harcourt area these days is growing as the number of hobby farmers and tree changers have added to the local population mix. I have an interest in the area due to the 3 generations of my forebears which lived in the area from the late 1800's.
Back in 1981 when the station was closed it became the home of community radio 3CCC FM, however that alone would not be a reason to have no passenger trains stopping there.
Most locals drove to Castlemaine which was at most, 15 minutes away and was served by all trains whereas not all services stopped at Harcourt.
Jump forward 25+ years and it was interesting to note early last week that Castlemaine station car park was full to capacity and there were cars parked along in the adjacent streets where it's obvious pax are travelling the 250 Km return trip to Melbourne for their daily commute.
There would have to have been over 70 cars in the vicinity, which I may add is separate to the Castlemaine main street shopping/parking.
Mike, finally in Longreach, Qld and ready for the new career challenges ahead.
The Vinelander, from Melbourne to Mildura was Victoria's only overnight sleeping car train which was launched 8/8/1972.
Ballan, the best town, on the best railway line, in the best state, of the best country in the World. Currently in Longreach.

The tracks at Harcourt presently go right through the middle of the pit, so they'll have to be realigned closer to a platform. The old goods yard would make a great carpark. Give it another 10 years and things may happen...
A suprisingly large number of people get on the 6.13 from Bendigo at Clarkefield. Dont know where they come from.
