It stalked me today at work. It came through Flinders St over the viaduct at roughly 9am, and then it was near the BG loco turntable at South Dynon this afternoon as I was leaving RTI, roughly 3:30pm.

It went through Burnley at about 9.35 yesterday morning.  It must have been going to Glen Waverley since the Blackburn train I caught two minutes later wasn't delayed after I caught it.  It took 29 seconds to go the length of the Burnley platform.

It was back at Geelong next to an N class this afternoon. I've never actually got a shot of it on the Geelong line, only ever around inner Melbourne.

Looks like I spoke too soon, as I ran into EM100 today at North Geelong. I headed from Geelong Loco up to North Geelong Junction, then reversed and went via the loop line to North Geelong C:

It then headed up to the gauge splitter, and waited for line clear:

Then I followed it up to Bell Post Hill:

Does the EM100 pick up track damage such as this at Mitcham?

Yes it does pick up track damage

wether they do anything about it is another story

Yes they do.

An example, the current excrutiatingly slow speed restriction on the Lilydale Line at Surrey Hills is an example of an EM100 fault, and will be fixed in November.

Good, was wondering when that would get fixed - down train this evening went through so slow, I assumed it was stopping at Surrey Hills (it didnt).

Meanwhile back at Mitcham, I've noticed a fair bit of wheel slip on the Alstom's when accelerating away from Mitcham (Up direction), usually in the wet - haven't noticed it so much at other stations, was wondering if this was due to the track condition at Mitcham, or if wheelslip on acceleration is not so unusual (for Alstoms at least)

its happens at mitcham quite  a lot, and it also occurs at Heatherdale too.. but it might be because of the gradient.

on the note of the belgrave line, there's a fairly decent track fault at Upper Ferntree Gully in the UP direction, about mid-way down the platform, the welding between the two pieces of track have come apart, and now they sit at two different heights... and when a train goes over it, its thuds over it, and the track looks as if its gonna come away...  Confused

so how does it actually change guage?

They go to a bogie exchange depot, where they remove the BG bogies and screw on an SG.

I don't think they (will) do anything about Mitcham or Heatherdale as it isn't serious, just noisy. The up track outside Heatherdale station has been rough since as far as I can remember, at least the mid 90s when the 4D was a common sight on that line. The curve at Ringwood on the up is also noisy.

Same with the tight curves that still have fishplates (like ERM), probably hasn't been changed since it was laid in the 1960s.

South Dynon seems to be where it usually goes. IIRC the spare SG bogies are often stored on a rack beside EM100 when it is stabled at Geelong, even though it would make sense to keep there where it gets bogie exchanged. Confused

EM100 spotted at 2:30 today on the Oakleigh UP track.
Sheer coincidence for me, I don't go out of my way to see these things.

When I saw EM100 on Tuesday before it headed out, it looked to have finally gotten a clean, with a tag on one end having finally been removed, it having been there since at least May 2008. Rolling Eyes

I seem to be having a good run of luck with EM100 the past few weeks. I was headed out trackside today, and while driving I thought I saw it under the bridge at North Geelong. I assumed it was headed back to Geelong Loco, so didn't bother turning back.

However, 10 minutes later I was just about to park the car trackside, when I heard the EM100 crew calling the signal box, and being told they would be sent down to Warrnambool once an up pass cleared Geelong station.

Jumping back in the car and headed back to town, EM100 was still waiting at 1530:

Driving down to the down end tunnel portal, I still had a bit of time to wait:

Unfortunately it was about quitting time for the nearby high school, and they use the area for their bus interchange:

It was 1543 by now:

It then headed to Geelong Racecourse, it took so long i could have got a quick shot at South Geelong when it was getting the train order.

I had a camera that can do video with my, but I kept forgetting to get it out of the car! Embarassed

EM100 should be down at Warrnambool now, I don't know when it will return.

EM100 made a rare daylight visit to Hurstbridge this morning, I was woken up by it on the down, and managed to drag myself out of bed to gunzel it on the up: http://martin-bennet.fotopic.net/p54913320.html

EM100 just went by New Street Gates at 12:40 and is about to dock at Sandy
