Plural is Citadises.

Citadis may sound Latin, but is a word created in modern times, so Latin linguistic conventions do not apply.

If I know, I might know where to go to see it, unless it is located in an part of that depot only accessible to staff.

It was taken from the meeting notes for the union meeting on 13th may.

"the short list has been finalised with two bidders left. Bombardier transport and Alstom. The tender process closed on the 10th June with the successful bidder being awarded the contract around September this year.

The contract will be quite broad by way of the possibility of more trams to be ordered beyond 50 without the need to go back to tender. Also, the timeframe can be accelerated to 10 trams per year over five years.

The external driver door, seperate air conditioning for the drivers cab and a steering turning leading bogie all look likely to be delivered as per RTBU demands.

Five trams will be delivered initially, with detailed quality checks carried out. Subject to acceptance, another 45 will follow.

Within 12 months of winning the contract, the manufacturer must provide a mock up of the cab for RTBU and drivers to be able to provide input in cab layout, etc."

^^
So fixed bogies have been an issue with the union?

(At present of the two only Alstom can deliver on that.)

Can someone please explain the basis of the request for an external door and separate air conditioning for the driver's cabs, please?

Separate driver's entrance has become an issue with security concerns on late night services in Europe. If there is an 'incident' in the passenger area the driver can exit the tram without having to go through the passenger area (having first 'locked' the miscreants in the tram!).

Separate aircon in the driver's cab allows the climate to be controlled in that area more consistently. If shared with the rest of the tram it will be subject to the constant variations that occur with doors opening and closing regularly. Basically makes the driver's working conditions more comfortable.

Thanks for that.

A separate drivers door also means that as a driver, I can get out of the cab to change the points without having to worry about passengers getting off and getting themselves hit by a car or something.

As I am sure many of you know, there is both a) a legal responsibility to the passenger to keep them safe, and b) a constant desire of the passenger to test your cat herding skills by trying to completely ignore you and your safety concerns.

I am also looking forward to the day when I can get out of the cab and stand on the outside of the tram waving at the passengers inside, before giving the impression that I am running off and leaving them locked up!

nyuk nyuk!
