Was down at Weston station on the weekend and noticed that where the mass of railway lines used to go under the big overbridge was all bulldozed and cleared. Looked like they may be preparing to re-lay track. Anybody know anything about this?

Cheers

the only reason I can think of for this work is to lay track from Weston to the Hunter Economic Zone via the old Hebburn branch formation.

AFAIK Laing O Rouke is currently building their new facility and they require a rail connection.

Here's a link to article from the Maitland Mercury dated 23/04/08

At this point the DA for Laing O'Rourke is still waiting approval. It was dark at Weston when I went through last night, so I didn't notice the works, but they may also be associated with preparations for the light traffic entrance to the Hunter Economic zone. I'll make enquiries and get back to you.
