Radio news story this afternoon (TripleM)
Media Mike revealing that the government was implementing a program to replace the windows in TA's railcars!
Program would start immediately and cost $700,000

Shocked

Quick someone get around to David Peters place, he'll have a heart attack when he finds out! Wink

Cheers,
Tony

Only when a Molatov Cocktail sails in one side and out the other will punters realise that it's a case of the Emperor's New Clothes and TA just spent $700,000 removing the windows altogether.

Not such a shock!
Media Mike announced this the other day on radio 5AA.
The shock is that the music stations are already catching up to the story, only about 4 days late.

Also, from the Advertiser (24/9):

"More than 700 seats will be removed from Adelaide trains over the next three years to increase standing room.

The State Government yesterday announced a $37million refurbishment of 70 railcars in TransAdelaide's 3000 and 3100 Class fleet.

That includes replacing decks of three seats on one side of the carriage with decks of two seats. This reduces seating by between 10 and 12 per carriage ...."

Pressman, I am typing this from my hospital bed, I read your opening and immediately went into cardiac arrest. Well not really but I was indeed shocked!

Not before damn time either, I was begining to think it would never get done, lets us pray that they do not try this again! Adelaidians like to see out of windows despite what TA tell us! Laughing

So, do we dare ask if the Rann Government is now in election mode.

June announces $2 billion upgrade of Rail system

September annoucnes $700,000 for Window replacement in 3000 class railcars.

September $37 million to be spent making standing room greater by removing seats.

Is the Government now in Panic Mode.

The article actually says: "That [$37,000,000] includes replacing decks of three seats on one side of the carriage with decks of two seats."

Wonder what else they'll be doing?

Also, down the bottom of the article it says:

"Mr Conlon said the upgrading was part of a $2 billion public transport investment. He said 58 diesel-electric trains would be converted to electricity, to complement a new fleet of 50 electric trains expected to be in operation by 2012. "It will give us the best public transport system in Australia at the end of that time," Mr Conlon said."

What do you reckon makes them think that? Not saying that it won't be or will be, it'd just be good to know how they figure that, and how they would measure it.

My tip is that the surplus will be used to pay for the inevitable media ads designed to inform the public what they've done for us voters.
