For those on the Eastern Seaboard Coast, Daylight Saving starts tomorrow.

A daylight savings calculator can be found here

(Note, that page needs a slightly wider display than 1024)

To change to daylight saving on your Railpage postings,

--> Go to YOUR ACCOUNT

--> Select YOUR INFO

Scroll down to the bottom until you see

Select your state, and click SUBMIT.

We are asked to save the whales. We have to save water. Now we have to save daylight. What next?????

Note - this is all a Government spin. There is no actual saving of daylight involved. Daylight will be the same length it always has but you are now required to get up in the dark again in order to have daylight time for your evening BBQ.

And if it' good enough for most of Australia (even those WAlians have joined in now) what is wrong with the Territorians and Queenslanders? Do you smell?

Australian time zones are as idisyncratic as our railway gauges. You live in Broken Hill NSW? You run on SA time which is 30 minutes different to the rest of your State. Eucla / Mundrabilla and a few other choice spots? You have your own (not widely advertised) time zone which is halfway between SA and WA times and aligned with nowhere else!

The one constant is that anywhere in Australia it will always be Beer O'Clock Very Happy

One interesting point that few people seem to grasp is that closer you get to the equator, the less the different in the length of daylight and night hours, so in effect "daylight savings" does not provide an effective benefit, hence the reason that Ol' Joe wouldn't get up an hour earlier for anyone.
And don't forget in Darwin, the setting of the sun does bring some relief to the heat of the day (Although Shacks will probably b|tch about not having the right light for an evening picture!) Laughing

This is also why the tasweegians what daylight savings to start earlier - so they get a perceived benefit (and for some reason the rest (nsw, vic and sa) are tagging along saying the early start is an experiment!)

Yes, we do, but its a nice smell, a combination of beer & steak mixed in with diesel. Very Happy Wink

Doesn't worry me if the clocks go forward an hour or not, I work from day break until it gets to 40 degrees in the shade and call it a day whether that makes for a 2, 5 or 10 hour day Cool

Actually, it's only three weeks earlier this year, as if it was the last Sunday in October as previous years, we would be moving our clocks forward on October 26—three weeks hence.
