I'd like to set this thread up as a place to post interesting photos of prototypical situations where things have gone 'woops' and produced something that could become a little talking point of your layout.

Here's an easy one to start us off - earlier this morning, a lifting chain broke on a container-carrying trailer as the 20' Hanjin container was being lifted down. 20-30 tonnes of roof tiles inside and a trip to the ground on its' side later, and we have this:

Of course, that's after the large Franna crane righted the box! Apologies for the small photos, my camera-phone is a little temperamental - however it's a little scene that could provide an interesting spot for your intermodal yard with barricades, truck, crane, workmen and a truckie having a sob in the corner!

If anyone's planning to make this, I ought to note that the base of the container was undamaged (I saw it while the box was on its' side, as it was facing out to the street). The bulge on the side must have been caused when the box was being brought back up onto its' base, as it had been lying on that face on the ground. Hate to see the insides of the box now!

I don't have any pics of any incidents as such, but I recall the 1962 accident on the Moss Vale - Unanderra line. A 45 with a limestone went run away and was derailed near the bottom of the escarpment. After the wagons and most? of the load were recovered, there was a white coating of limestone dust and a number of broken off wagon components lying in the undergrowth.

I have photos of the trailer part of a woolworths semi trailer parked on the side of the road, tail in the air, nose on the ground, after the support legs collapsed - driver who'd come to pick it up standing around looking bemused.

That truck might just have been a little bit shorter if a work train came along Laughing Twisted Evil

Given that at its closest point to the rails it seems to be in line with the OHLE staunchion, I doubt it.

It might look like it, but the truck was well clear of the line. We returned an hour later to find the truck gone.

Some of the accidents on this site might be a little difficult to model-

I think a couple that would be easy to do would be:

S Truck Shunted over the top of an ash type buffer.

Police Car with Flashing Lights behind another car with figure of policeman next to offender.

Cattle wagon through the stockyard fence with stray cattle nearby.

Looks like the cat has been playing on the layout again.

There was an earth buffer in the Grafton yards (southern end of Cranworth street, western or down end of the yards) that often had an open wagon pointing skywards to drain out the water. Laughing
Sometimes there was one on either side Exclamation
A little too much hit in the hit up.
Used to make for an interesting view riding the old push bike to school.

Shocked

... Shocked

Between that and the turntable accident, I'm just amazed at the human ability to succeed...
