These appear to be unofficial type names or nicknames which are pretty dreadful.

By comparison, CFCLA name their main line locos after Racehorses.

Australian horse power, was the catch cry. Yes/No

Yes CFCLA name thier units after Australian Racehorses and are offical names, and if you read my first post (the 2nd post in this thread) I stated that none of the IRA leased 44's carry offical names only nic names.

Yes some units have been repainted 4472 was first to recieve the Silver & Yellow scheme, followed by 4488 although these were painted this scheme over 18months ago and apart from 1 L/E movement from Branxton to Islington Junction and return by 4472 neither have been seen on the mainlines since painting. These 2 units are not on lease to IRA or anyone for that matter.
4497 while still under lease to IRA wearing the reverse livery was heavily attacked by graffiti scumbags and it was decided to paint it in the all over silver livery of IRA instead of cleaning the graffiti off the unit.

AFAIK 4458 Green/White, 4461 Red/Cream, 4463 faded candy, 4497 graffiti covered silver & 4498 Faded red terror are still on lease to IRA.

Just had a thought though 4497 due to one of the iteams of gratti on it had the nic name "The Boobie" loco for a while.
